Are Your Gears Greased Up For 2010? What Will You Be Doing Differently?

Each January a lot of blogs come out discussing things how to get motivated for the new year in the real estate profession. Reading these is enjoyable and in most cases can be pretty motivational. In fact they really do motivate and inspire me. So I guess this is my rudimentary attempt at trying to motivate myself as much as others.

2009 was a learning experiencefor many of us in real estate. Professionals in some areas of the country "learned " themselves out of a job. Other areas showed signs of some recovery from severe real estate market condition, and agents in even other areas found themselves just beginning a down turn. And still a select few other areas didn't really have anything more than a " bump" .  But one thing is for certain.

We will all be doing business different from now on . This is no longer your grand dad's world.

So in deciding how to insure a good next year in the business, I believe that it is important to stay motivated , focus on the future, and resolve to do things better,  with more efficiency and without delay.  And with  a committed willingness to increase social networking and computer skills . That all sounds good to me, but will those things make enough difference?

Probably what matters more than than all of those committments  however is going to be an asserted effort to sacrifice more, work more hours, concentrate on my SOI, remember those individuals and organizations that helped me get where I am today, Pay more and better attention to my clents,  work more FSBO's and God forbid .........KNOCK ON DOORS?

Wait a minute!  this is beginning to sound like that old cliche...."I am going to get back to basics this year.  And does it not sound a little like how your grand dad did business?   Would that be so bad? I admit that I still need to change a whole lot about the way I personaly do business. but something inside says don't let go of those quality business practices that should never go out of style.

So this year while greasing up to get those money gears cranking, don't just resolve to only to try  new programs, systems, or techniques. Please consider trying a few of the old things that have stood the test of time......hard work, quality service, a commitment to get the job done.

Now get to greasing those gears!

Good point! I started doorknocking the 4th QTR of 2009. The biggest challenge was telling myself to do it. Once I got out there it was actually kind of fun. !

There are so many agents thatr came in this business when it fell in their lap ...the last couple of years have been an eyeopener for them. Keep up the knocking!

I'm totaly ready to rock and roll! I've always believed in using both, the old ways and then adding the new thing along with them. I am making one major change in my business, and that doing Energy Audits.

You pose a powerful question in "What will you be doing differently".  I will personally be focusing on the buyer side of the market far more in 2010.  Enhanced marketing that specifically targets and helps homebuyers by adding value.  I still believe the market will be dominated by those who are buyer focused.  Most of the top real estate agents and big teams who haven't figured this out are either out of business or feeling the economic pinch.

I suppose the view is relative. Historically " List to Last " lasts in the realm of real estate.
