Just recently food scrap recycling came into being in San Carlos, one of the few cities in our mid-Peninsula where that has been introduced.

To continue the momentum these programs have generated, the focus has now turned to commercial properties and multi-family dwellings, both in San Carlos and neighboring San Mateo.

You are invited to attend an informational meeting, to ask questions, voice your opinions, and learn more details.

The City of San Mateo is also considering expanding their program.

Hi Lottie ~ This food scraps recycling program sounds like a super idea. Been a long time coming. We took a huge step backwards when garbage disposals replaced the garbage pails that fed the local pigs.

Good morning Liz - I've been thinking the same thing these last couple of months. I admit I resisted at first, but it just took a small adjustment in habit to comply and it makes so much sense.. Keep warm!

You're right, Diane, takes some forward thinking. I think there's a real challenge ahead for apartment-style buildings.

Lottie - We are in process of banning all plastic bags at local grocery stores.  I am for it as I have canvas bags, that carry 3 to 4 times as much and are easy to wash.  The small changes we make can add up significantly.

Good for you, Christine! I don't know why I find that so hard to do--it's next on my list to correct!

Sounds like a wonderful program.  The more we recycle, the better the planet will be in the long run.  Next up, zero net energy consumption housing.

Hi Jeff -- it is a great program, expanding soon to multi-family housing. I love your thought of zero net energy consumption housing. Gotta keep striving for improvements.
