GOOGLE MORE ADVANCED THAN US INTELLIGENCE

By
Real Estate Agent with Orlando Area Real Estate Services

The ALLEGED bomber of Northwest 253 pleaded not guilty in a US Criminal Court yesterday through his lawyers as he is facing six charges that could lead to life in prison.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab did speak to confirm his name (more on that whole pesky "name" thing in a moment) and the fact that he is 23.

So civilised!

Lawyers in suits; the ALLEGED terrorist in a nice pair of beige pants and yet somehow we managed to mess this up. How could anyone think it was a good idea to charge him as a criminal? To give him the same process as a shoplifter? How could anyone think he would not qualify as "enemy combatant" and take him for military interrogation? How is Janet Nepolitano still in work? I really do feel we have fallen through the looking glass sometimes.

Meanwhile eight pages of the Presidents report on the "incident" have been declassified and if you read through it you will discover that Google apparently has better technology than US Intelligence. Look at this!

Mr. Abdulmutallab possessed a U.S. visa, but this fact was not correlated with the concerns of Mr. Abdulmutallab's father about Mr. Abdulmutallab's potential radicalization. A misspelling of Mr. Abdulmutallab's name initially resulted in the State Department believing he did not have a valid U.S. visa. First of all, I simply LOVE how we call him "Mr Abdulmutallab". I can't wait to read the one than speaks of "Mr Bin Laden"...

BUT...

REALLY?

We don't have anything in US Intelligence that is equivalent to Google's "Did You Mean?" Ap which picks up typos and bad spellings of words and suggests the correct ones?

AGAIN...

REALLY?

And how comforting is it that we just told the enemy about this lack of technology! Don't you just love that?

Meanwhile if you read that piece from the report again, you will realize that had the State Department or whoever had that Google tool, then they would have realized that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab did in fact have a valid US Visa and therefore could have come here perfectly legitimately which is exactly what he did. Once they tied that up with the intelligence we received from HIS DAD, then perhaps we might of actually stopped him getting on the plane.

I'm sure you're resting much easier now.

There is even a site for e-Bay users that searches for items that have misspellings in the title!

Simon - amazing. Isn't Google a capitalist enterprise?  Do we expect our government to advance as rapidly as free market creativity?

Simon,

It is a matter of Political Correctness, not intelligence capabilities. PC hampers the results, and will be until it becomes a matter of common sense more than PC.

Simon - perhaps they should use the same name search algorithms used by TSA for the no fly list. After all, wasn't putting people on the list who's names were, not just the same, but similar to suspected terrorists. But then again, that list is used for U.S. citizens.

As for the fiasco of treating this like criminal case, that in itself is criminal. So much opportunity was lost to gather intelligence on who his handlers are, etc.

BTW - notice how WMD's now include devices that will kill dozens. I do beleive that thousands of those were found in Iraq, will Bush get a pass on that now?

Our President is turning into a National Joke.  At least this time he did not try to blame Bush.

Simon,

You can only hide incompetence for so long, and the Obama Camp is starting to realize that( I hope).

Mike - Thats a great point on WMD's.

Has our government gone insane??  We are treating war criminals like the common American Citizen??  Wasting money we don't have on those who are trying to blow us up?  Wasting valuable oportunities to SAVE OTHER CITIZEN LIVES.

If obama were doing the LEAST he could do to save American lives, he would have turned this war criminal over to the military.  He is doing what he always does, running his mouth and not doing anything of value to protect all of us!

If we aren't careful, Google will be renaming itself HAL2000...  And I bet they do have better technology that most of the government.  And they can do it cheaper and faster and with fewer union employees... but I digress.

The words "military intelligence" are an oxymoron. It is ridiculous that we are trying this guy as a common criminal.  He should have been immediately whisked away and spent the next few weeks of his life being heavily interrogated.  Who knows how many other terrorists he might have knowledge of that are ready to do the exact same thing as he was - but successfully.

By the way, Lane, do you know where the name HAL came from?

Shift each letter one letter to the right in the alphabet...

On a separate thought, President Reagan used to say that the best minds are not in the government.  If they were, they would have been hired away by private enterprise.  Good point - we should remember that one.

Rob, Careful there my friend.  I was "military intelligence" and I resemble that remark.

Fear not, we used to say it all the time.  Of course we were referring to the higher ups.  Right on up to the lawmakers.
