Pink Sky in the Morning?

Over time I have heard many different things about signs in the skies. Do you know the old axiom "Pink Sky in the Morning, Sailor take warning, Pink sky at night Sailors Delight. " This one has born out the results many times in my life. They say if you see a pink sky in the morning you are in for a storm thus Sailors take warning, If you see a pink sunset it should be smooth sailing for days to come.

Have you ever seen a sun dog? They say if you see a sun dog there will be a storm within 4 days.

Check out pictures of sun dogs on someone elses post: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1418462/spirit-in-the-sky-

What about rings around the moon?

What is a Blue Moon?

Soon we will be hearing about Ground Hog Day, how valid is that prediction?

There are may of these sayings out there, Would you add to the list?

Is the ground hog effective?  Isnt it: See the shadow 6 more weeks of Winter, No shadow 6 more weeks till spring?

Sounds effective to me!

Great shots of the red sky.

Randy,

These are truly very heavy questions to ponder over.  The pictures are fantastic.  As for ground hog day, experience shows that puxatony phil is far more accurate than any of the local forecasters on TV, not to mention, he's a good looking animal (barring the teeth).  :-)

Shadow or no shadow winter ends and spring starts the same time each year...  The snow melts when it melts around here...

Randy, I have seen a sun dog, and the ring around the moon.  The blue moon, as I understand it is the 2nd full moon in a calendar month, by the way great photos!  You do such a great job with them!

Robert, Thanks for your comment. Seems like we have had some pretty good indicators in line already. They are probably more accurate than all of the modern equipment the news people try to use to predict weather.

Joe, You are so right. Just watch the skies and you will know what to expect. I used to have my shoulder tell me when a storm was coming. That was after rotator cuff surgery. Over time the pain has subsided.

Eyore, Thanks for stating the obvious LOL, What indicators of weather have any of you heard over time?

Tony & Darcy, I am guessing that Sun Dogs are more common in our part of the country than in warmer climates cause it takes ice crystals to make them. Thanks as always for your comments.
