Gold Mining on Your Birthday!
Have you ever seen a birthday cake like this? Do you know what it is? Ok - the title might have given it away! Let me tell you the heart warming story...
A dear friend and client of mine wanted to create something really special for her husband Eddy. They've had a rough 2009 and it was time to turn the corner and find their gold mine in 2010. Eddy had been working on his dream of building a Desert Bed and Breakfast in AZ for over 25 years. He worked hard and long hours on the project - and it came to a fast stop in 2007 when the real estate market took a dive. He continued to do whatever he could to keep his dream alive for 2 more years. Every step of the way seemed to get worse and worse until finally, it became clear that there was no solution. He chose to let the dream die. It was time to find another gold mine.
After 25 years of living in the desert (50 miles out of Phoenix) Eddy packed their bags and belongings and moved into their new home in town in August of 2009. At first we were all very concerned about how he would adjust to in-town living and the fact that his life long dream was gone.
Much to our surprise he adjusted quickly. He couldn't believe he had less than a 20 minute drive to work, that pizza could be delivered within 10 minutes, that he didn't have another 3 to 4 hours of work after arriving home every night around 6:00 and that he could dive into the pool by 5:00 and relax the rest of the evening!
Every day was like a new beginning - he started to smile more, laugh more. And so did his wife. Seeing the two of them release the stress of the past few years was such a relief to all of us that care and love these two very special people.
The gold mine? Eddy loves to go mining for gold - seriously! He's been doing it for years in Northen AZ. On his birthday weekend he had hoped to go out mining - but his wife had other plans! His birthday was on Friday. The previous Monday his beloved ranch was sold at auction. She was very concerned that he'd be depressed. Clever gal that she is, she roped in support to throw Eddy a huge surprise party for everyone that knew him! Talk about a huge suprise and success! Eddy had no idea - and was so delighted that everyone had come together for him. It was by far the best party I've attended in years. To see this man smile, laugh and play without a care in the world was the best gift we could imagine for him. To see his wife looking at him with such love and joy was - priceless. Priceless.
Gold Mining on Your Birthday! What is more important in life then finding peace of mind and joy in your heart and the love of family and friends? We alll know the answer!
