Can I love the Dawgs and Have an Affair with the Cats?

Kentucky is Basketball Country.

I have two degrees from the University of Washington and my wife and I had the opportunity to watch our son play in the Husky band in the 93 Rose Bowl.  So I have every reason to bleed purple and gold.

I had the opportunity to watch Kentucky wildcats play Tennessee seven years ago while my daughter Marnie was a grad student at the Universty of Kentucky.  That game gave me a taste of the rabid thirst for basketball here in Lexington.  Now that I live here though I am fascinated with the "basketball culture."   The UK flag waving on the front porch  is a common accent.  On game day the sea of blue and purple garb ebbs over the city from Fresh Market to Traditional Bank.

Basketball rivals the Bible here in the Bluegrass country.  If you are able to talk Bball then you can carry on a converstation with the young and the old anywhere in the city.

This year as the Cats continue to go undefeated  the frenzy seems building daily.  It reminds me of waiting to see if Mt St. Helens would erupt in 1980.  Fans have come to expect an undefeated season although many will admit winning a National Championship would be sufficient.

Meanwhile my Washington Huskies who were expected to challenge for a championship in the very weak PAC Ten have really struggled.  So I am thinking about adopting another team.  Can I still love my Huskies and also have an affair with the Cats?

If you like basketball and have not watched the Wildcats you need to find a way to make a date.  John Wall their all world freshman guard gets his share and more of the press but they also have three other lottery picks in my opinion.  Patrick Patterson is an All American big guy with a sweet outside shot.  DeMarcus Cousins is a freshman that gets better every game, is almost seven feet tall, built like a tight end and amazingly nimble for a very large man.  Against Arkansas on Saturday he played 17 minutes had 16 points and 14 rebounds.  What would happen if he played a complete game?  Eric Bledsoe another freshman may be as good as John Wall but he began the year with a sprained ankle.  Both quards are super quick, have great floor vision and play tremendous defense.  I haven't seen the statistics but it seems to me Bledsoe is a better outside shooter.

Well I think I answered my question.  I still love the Dawgs but I certainly am courting those Cats!
