Ipad for Realtors?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker BK 3030358

I am constantly impressed with Steve Jobs.  I think that he is the best marketing guru of all time.  The hype around the launch of the new IPad has been intense.  Today's launch is going to change how we interact with a computer.  And, the buzz that he can create by keeping quiet is amazing considering that we are in the era of social networking.

With wifi, and 3G access, a reasonable price, "wow" factor, and handy mapping features this could replace my laptop and be an easy way to organize mls sheets when showing homes.

I did find out that it will support a bluetooth keyboard, which is awesome, (too bad the iphone can't sync to a full size keyboard.)

One feature that would have been nice is a stylus to sign documents, BUT..

I had an early slate style computer with the stylus.  Remember when we are all going to be doing paperless transactions?  I did use the stylus on a few contracts, but it quickly became cumbersome to use.  It's just easier to use paper, and then scan.

I am looking forward to getting mine!

I find that Docu-Sign helps me far more than anticipated. I can't imagine what a tablet could do for me.

Joe, I'm still trying to find the value in another piece of hardware. I'll have to watch how the market reacts to this.

Joe - Great points!  I am not sure how the majority of us will be able to dump our notebooks in exchange for the iPad because from everything I have read it does not have the ability to multi-task.  I am also hoping they change this and Apple will soon get on board with Adobe Flash.  Where I personally see this product succeeding is in the hands of the consumer and I believe it will be a huge success.

Multi tasking will not be a strong point for the ipad, but I don't have a problem with that, since I can switch quickly between apps as I can on my iphone.

the flash thing is really Apple's attempt to knock out adobe from their lock with flash.  I think that this product will be an instant hit, and put pressure on major sites to change away from flash.

This device will evolve into a major work tool for busy Realtors... The iPhone has detractors, but look at the app store - 100,000+

The iPad will follow a similar arc, with similar detractors, and success for sure!

I just watched the video for the Ipad last night. It's very tempting to buy. I have a macbook laptop. It's not paper thin but it gets the job done. The ipad would def. give me the "Cool factor" when using it to show mls sheets and other real estate information during a listing appointment.

You know it is a matter of time before they do the multi task and bring it to a point where we will be loyal followers!  They are geniuses and I am one of those followers!LOL

I have been giving the Apple iPad some serious thought and I believe the iPad will really shine not as much in the hands of the real estate agents but more in the hands of the consumers.  At only 1.5 pounds this is going to be the ultimate wifi device for those on the go.  I also think the ebook / iBook feature will attract an even larger base of consumers to the internet which could translate into more activity and traffic on our real estate websites.

I had a Motion Computing tablet (slate convertible) for about four years.  Until I got my lightweight Dell XPS M1330.  Slates are fun, but keyboards are efficient.

Just ordered my ipad.   i think that this will be a great tool.

My apple blue-tooth keyboard is compatible and once there is a bluetooth scanner I will be all set.

i've been thinking about getting an iPad for business (and personal use too!).  like any other new device, there are pros and cons to it, especially when comparing it to what we do now.  i think consumers will respect the fact that their agent is on top of technology just as much as they are.  while it may not be as useful for listings (aside from perhaps an awesome visual aid to the listing presentation), i can see this being HUGE with buyers, especially those who already have iPhones and can look up property info while I'm driving!
