DID THE COLD FREEZE UP MY SUPRA iBOX?

Well, no matter how long I've been in business ( 30 + years) I always find out something new. Today was no exception

I went over to remove a Supra lock box. The home has no storm door , so the box is exposed to the elements. Central Oho has 12 inches of snow and today wind chills below zero!  I can get the key out from the box, but when I  tried to remove the box from the door using my shackle code. it didn't move at all.

Weather related? Box malfunction? Any of you have this happen and if so, how did you get it fixed?

I was on our association lockbox search committee and they warned us about this possibility; however, it has not happened to my boxes.  I don't put them on the door * I leave them on the deck/porch as I think they will be less likely to be effected by the weather for just this reason

Joe - I have had that only happen twice in the past 5 years.  I had moisture built up in the box and the key drawer opened but the release that goes over the knob was frozen in the locked position.  The way I got it open was I poured hot water over the actual lockbox and within seconds I tried the shackle code and it opened right up.  The best news is that the Supra Ebox is so much easier to use than the older style push button and dial style boxes because they boxes would freeze up pretty easily.

Joe,

Sounds like it might be the COLD weather.  I did have the same experience with one of my boxes and I pulled down on the box as I was entering the shackle code and after 3 attempts I won the battle.  I don't know if pulling down had anything to do with the release or not, but it's worth a try if you haven't already.

If it still won't release, maybe a hairdryer would thaw it out!

that's too bad Joe! I never have had that on an ELB, but I have had that on a combo lock. It was sitting in the elements and it rained a few days and then the temp dropped and frozed everything. it was a solid block of ice. to say the least it was a foreclosure...go figure!
