Trinket SalesmanIf anything sometimes gives real estate salespeople a bad image it is association with other salesmen or saleswomen people have experienced in their lives that do not have their best interest at heart. But times change, ways of doing things change, and new trends emerge. I am starting to think we are seeing

The Death Of The "Trinket" Real Estate Salesperson.

Like the Willy Loman's of this world in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman play, who could not adapt to the changing times, the REALTORS only getting new exposure for themselves from kitchen magnets, calendars, and letter openers or pens with their name and office on them, MAY be falling behind.

Today's next wave of generational buyers are searching more on the Internet, engaging in all forms of social conversation and responding to web sites, that the direct mail recipe card just may be going the way of the dinosaur, like the HUGE dropoff in newspaper classifieds for real estate.

Pinata

The tragedy for the Willy Loman's of the world was really a matter of a lack of self-knowledge. That the old techniques are not working anymore. Not allowing the mind to be open.

There is an inherent misperception that being the TOP PRODUCER of old with all your charm and charisma ought to work going into the future. The glib responses or what were called practicing your ten ways to overcome objections in training or "scripts", today's buyers and sellers just blow by that and are too sophisticated for that.

Buyers and sellers and investors are NOT as blind as we would think them to be swinging at a Pinata in selecting an agent. They research, they read, they know a lot more than we think they do.

If trinkets work for you, fine. But it is definitely a trend that is diminishing in the marketplace. Be prepared, it won't work forever.

I agree it works less and less all the time, unfortunatly some buyers and sellers still fall for some of those old tricks, giving us all a bad rap.
