Two Sides of an Insurance Story - The Ugly and the Good

Real Estate Agent with Power Brokers Int'l BRE# 01439865

Some of you may have heard that Anthem Blue Cross has, in their infinite wisdom, decided that they need to make just a little more money in California and decided to raise their premiums yet again.  It seems like they do it every five minutes.  So guess how much they think they can squeeze out of us? Doctor

My present monthly premium with a $5000 deductible is $516.  If I stay on the same plan it would increase to $701.  It is beyond mind boggling.  I do have the option to get a $7500 deductible and pay only $563.

They have run wild.

Fortunately Anthem have been stopped by State regulators from putting this into effect until May 1 while they look into this insanity.

And we don't need health care reform in this country!

On the other side of the coin:

I am going through a nightmare scenario with the house I just listed which is the subject of another post at a later time and a lesson to be taught.  I have been, to say the least, highly distracted and smashed up my brand new 2010 Lexus SUV.

GEICO is my insurance company and the cute gecko they have as their symbol is highly appropriate, not to mention he has an English accent, and no, he does not sound like Sheldon as someone suggested.

Not only are they probably the cheapest of all the insurance companies they are by far probably one of the most professional.  From start to finish they are on top of things.  They are empathetic, friendly and everything is taken care of in record speed.

They sent me to a place to get the car fixed and I thought I was at a five-star resort. I was treated like royalty. The body shop representative greeted me with a clip board and explained the procedures.  The GEICO examiner presented me with a mini brochure, escorted me around the car and also explained what was going to happen.  The body workers were crowded around the car and explaining what they may or may not do, and the Enterprise rental car guy was there with the car.  I was in and out in about 20 minutes.  By the afternoon I was given the estimate and they had already done a fair amount of work on the car.

The adjuster called me for a recorded interview of my side of the story and was extremely friendly and helpful.  She also mentioned that my premium may not go up and could go down, depending on what is happening in my area.  Ain't going to happen but would be nice.

I have a bad taste for Anthem but I love GEICO.

Jane, it's good to hear your GEICO endorsement. I empathize with your Anthem woes. I fully realize how very fortunate I am to have health coverage through my husband's employer, although that has changed substantially this past year--co-pays increased three-fold and deductibles rose too. Health insurance coverage is a huge issue.

How heartbreaking to have your new Lexus smashed. But, it's good to hear how you were treated by Geico. Massachusetts has not allowed them to operate in our state until recently. I may be checking them out to see if they are a better choice than the company I have.

A client recently rear-ended my BMW while following me to a home showing. I have to wait almost two months before the auto body shop can make the repair but I have already received the check from the insurance company so, at least, I know it will be taken care of.  I hate to even have a scratch on my car :(

Jane, I had used GEICO all through my 35 years with the Government. When I moved to WV GEICO could not give me a home policy. So I went to Nationwide for my home and car insurance.  But, will be going back to GEICO for my car insurance they are cheaper, and I really miss the great service I received from them.

Janice, there will always be someone who has a problem with a large company.  But I have never had a problem with them.  I was with another insurance company 20th Century Insurance, or something like that at the time, that dropped me after my 3rd claim.

Bill,  certainly no need to change when you are happy with your company.

Lottie,  yep.  It is what is helping to bankrupt the country

Claudette,  oh another car nut.  I can't stand seeing a scratch on my car let alone what happened to it this time.  I took it in immediately as I always do - per scratch.  Sorry about your incident.  I share your pain.

Rebecca,  yes, their service really stands out.  Glad you are considering going back to them.

Jane ~ Health Insurance, lets see SCREAMMMMMINGGGG MAD! When I first took it out BCBS in 2001 the premium was around $275.00 for the two of us.  It's now if I still kept the same policy over $900.00 So, lets see in 9 short years it jumped that much.   I have now gone to the highest deductable of $10,000 and its still almost $300.00 per month.  If it was up to me I would drop it completely but the husband will not let me.

sorry to hear about your SUV but at least your in good hands there!

I am glad to hear two sides of a story. I have to say that so many people complain that health care reform will limit my insurance...Sorry, the only entity limiting my health care and charging more these days is MY  Insurance company every year!!! Ever wonder why the same folks are spending millions to create confusion and maintain the status quo of the consumer getting the shaft? Hmmm...I rarely get worked up, oh well I hope you had a pleasant Valentine's day!

Definitely sorry about your SUV Jane.  Yes BC/BS sucks.  I have always avoided GEICO because of the "15 minutes."  I always think "fifteen minutes seems like a lifetime."  But sense they've come out smelling like a rose (in your situation) maybe I'll give them a second thought.

I am so glad that at least half of your story was a good story.  I also have a $5000 deductible health insurance and it seems like the premium goes up just about every month... I'm not even sure how much it is right now, since Don writes those checks.    Our health insurance is with Gold Rule...

Jane, perhaps they could use your recorded interview for an upcoming commercial. And, yes, we need reform like crazy, and if someone would start a trend towards acting like grown ups in DC, I, for one, would be most grateful! On another note, one of my sons rolled my old Lexus SUV...gotta love dogs:)

Hi Jane - remind me to discuss our group health insurance plan ... we have Anthem as well. I hate insurance!

Also, don't blog about the legal issue until it's resolved ... you don't want the post ending up in the wrong hands.

"Franklin MA Homes" insurance is outrageous.....I pay $1,360/month just for me....not a family plan cross/blue's the best with the least amount of deductible...the older one gets, the more important it is to have the best....major shoulder surgery cost me nothing.

Jane, of course not. Just his feelings...maybe his ego. Idiot never sounds good coming from ones mother:)
