Pound Puppies and Professionals Prospecting ...Revealed!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with St.Cloud Homes

Has selecting a Real Estate Professional become like choosing a puppy at the pound? Ever walked through the local pound?  As perspective owners walk down the rows on cages each dog pitches "the prospect" differently. There are the Uber-Friendly, charismatic ones "pick me, pick me", there are the shy ones, the sad ones, and the ones that never come out of the enclosure. Much like  Real Estate Professionals auditioning to be selected by sellers. They have but one objective; to win the sale.

Depending on what the prospective owners needs are, will often determine what pound pup they will ultimately choose. All candidates are hopefully. I recently saw a natural born sales pup. He was a youngster. Everytime a prospect came his way, he got his game on. "Hi, Glad to see ya,  pick me, I'm cute, friendly, playful, like belly scratches, I like people, and you want me! I am enthusiastic, friendly, and you'll want me!"  As the prospect walked down the line, he maintained eye contact, and followed the lead. Eventually, on the second pass, he got them to stop. "I missed you, glad your back, pick me, pick me"

The little "saleman" was effective. He didn't bark at them, he used his personality to win his 2 minute audition. Shortly thereafter he was seen in the reception area licking the face of his new owner as they signed the paperwork to bring him home.

The lesson learned from observing this little fella was simple. He used his best attributes to win the sale. His personality, charisma, and charm to win over the prospect. He made them no promises. He showed appreciation.  His objective was to find a new home. On the second pass, his 7 second presentation paid off. The relationship he formed without a single word, was good enough to win them over.

Sounds like you described every open house I've ever been to. This is exactly what each of us is trying to do when we meet someone new.

As an animal lover it is hard for me to resist them all.  But I am forever fascinated with their indiviual style and could easily see how they are natural born salesmen.

Allison, very cute analogy. And yes, I have no doubt that they do sell. I got a listing from a lady who selected me only because of my dogs' pictures on my website! Isn't that selling?
