Be sure to Evaporate unused paint before Disposing of the cans, containers for water-based paints and finishes that are not considered hazardous wastes, can usually be disposed of in your normal trash collection if they are completely empty and dry.

Paint Cans

Before you go to dispose of any unused water-based paint cans, open them up and set the cans in a well-ventilated area and allow the old paint to evaporate until only a dry residue remains.

You can also use a sturdy cardboard box and fill it with clay-based kitty litter, pour the paint onto the kitty litter and let it dry.

 Cat

Then you can dispose of the dried paint and kitty litter mixture along with your trash.

These tips are only for disposing of Latex water-based paints

Be sure to always check with your waste disposal service and center, before disposing of any home workshop cans.

Dale that is a good way and idea with kitty litter to dispose of the unused product. We have a recycle program a couple times a year in Comal County where we can take all these items and dispose properly. That sure is a great and colorful pic of all those paint cans. Ceil likes to mix different colors and mix them together, she would have a great time with all those colors. She did that and came out with a pretty green that she painted the garage walls with.

Carl - thank you kindly!!! Folks should always recycle oil paints and strippers and things like that. Thats for sure!!! I have actually walked in to basements of homes, and garages that have had that many cans of paints just sitten around, some of the cans of paint did not even have a lid or the lid was not all the way down on them. I sure bet those garge walls sure do look real good.
