3 Common Questions About Electronic Signatures

By
Real Estate Agent with DocuSign

As real estate professionals you have a lot of questions about electronic signature and how it may benefit your business.  I've put together answers to the most common questions.

1. How do I get DocuSign on my mobile phone?

DocuSign "Designed for Mobile" comes with your subscription to DocuSign - there are no apps to download! It works for Apple iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and Google Android. With electronic signature "Designed for Mobile," eSign is faster and easier for customers to complete transactions while on the go.

You and your clients can now view and e-sign documents on your handheld device and see a new status console optimized for mobile browsers.

2. Will DocuSign work with my forms?

Yes!  Online forms or paper forms.  For online forms, we've partnered with many of the most used real estate forms providers - click here to learn more about our partners.

And if you still like to print out your forms, you can fax them right into DocuSign!  Take them from paper to electronic with the push of a button.

You can also DocuSign documents created in Adobe (PDF's), MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint as well.

I am fortunate enough to work for a lender that accepts Docusign for both Conventional and FHA loans.  However, no dice on VA loans right now.  My wife, a Realtor, loves DocuSign.  When showing a client a home, she can write, sign, and submit an offer via email right in the property!

I love using DocuSign. Sometimes the banks are a little frisky to accept it on short sales but they are coming around gradually. Even Bank of America will accept them now. It makes me so much more productive when I can email documents, hold a conference call to explain them, and then get them right back. It literally saves me hours of travel time.

As of January 1, 2011 DocuSign will be free through our association...It is a challenge though that some of the banks aren't such fans, but they'll get there I presume.

Thanks for this information Suzanne.  We just had an agent meeting last week and announced that we are starting the process for DocuSign.  This really helps us prepare.

I started using Docusign 4 or 5 months ago after I saw another agent in my office using it. Immediately I found it to be a time saver for me and my clients whether in town or out of town. But if you have out of town clients, especially if they are in two locations and you need to get something signed-you HAVE to have Docusign!

My success story is from a month ago. After a long negotiation between agents, sellers and buyers-ALL in different locations, we finally had a meeting of the minds at almost 11PM. Everyone had gotten frustrated but it was time to get the deal fully ratified. I use Zipforms as well but in this case the buyer's agent didn't unfortunately. So I created the documents we need and emailed them to 5 different email addresses in 4 different cities plus me for my signature. Had we had to print and fax docs all over the country they would have come back illegible and probably not for several hours or perhaps over a day. Too much time and perhaps someone could have changed their mind. But with Docusign, within about 10 minutes, everyone had signed off, had their fully legible copies and we had a ratified deal. Everyone was amazed at how easy it was and truly a time and effort savor. Does it cost me money every month? Yes, but it is more than worth it, and when you have the right clients who use it and are able to do it on their smart phone-they love me! I sign docs on my cell phone frequently as well and you can't beat the ease of use.
