I am proud to be living in Oakwood, Ohio. My family and I love the character of the older homes, unique architecture, boulevards, and BIG mature trees throughout the community. The Shops of Oakwood are walking distance from our home and are convenient for everything, including groceries, banks, a pharmacy, restaurants, a pet store, a florist, a UPS store, clothing stores, and pretty much anything you can imagine!
The city of Oakwood offers a TON of community activities! Real Living Realty is the proud winner of the 2007 Annual Scarecrow Contest, where residents and businesses can enter to create the best scarecrow and put the straw creatures on display during October along the Schantz boulevard. During the winter, Oakwood also has a home holiday lighting display contest and free carriage rides. The holiday tree lighting is another community event which takes place at the park near the Oakwood Community Center, located at 105 Patterson Road, which houses the department of Leisure Services, and is the home of Gardner Pool. This pool provides relaxation from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The lower level of the community center houses ping pong, billiards, a large screen television and other games for students aged eight to eighteen. Residents sixteen and over may enjoy Nautilus, Universal and free weight equipment in the Health Center, which also features a stair climber, rowing machine and stationary bicycle. The Community Center also sponsors a full range of athletic activities including volleyball, tennis, baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and swimming. A variety of art, drama, dance and gymnastics classes are offered for all ages. Walking and jogging are probably the city's most popular leisure activities. Route maps are available at the community center.
Oakwood is proud of its three neighborhood parks, Orchardly, Shafor and Fairridge. Playground equipment, landscaping and access for the handicapped is at all three parks. Tennis is a proud city tradition, with courts at Shafor and Orchardly Parks recognized as some of the finest public courts anywhere. Instruction is provided for all ages and levels. Courts are available on a first come, first served basis year round.
