Thank you for standing pat as a Christian.  I have seen a great number of objections from many so-called right wing

"Christians" who forgot about the teachings of Christ.  Calvinism will do that to you...or rather it will justify selfishness.

Linda - Riiiight - I bet God is especially pleased that we'll now have federally-funded abortions on demand, too. Curious how you forgot to include that in your short list of the "benefits" of this travesty of a bill. But I wouldn't get too giddy yet - this bill is likely to end up being struck down by the Supreme Court, because nowhere in the Constitution is Congress granted the power to compel the people to purchase anything (including insurance). Barry and the Lib's have no idea of the firestorm they've just unleashed - November is going to be a bloodbath!

Today, the President announced that he will be issuing an executive order after the passage of the health insurance reform law that will reaffirm its consistency with longstanding restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortion..................................................... National Organization for Women President Terry O'Neill issued a statement Sunday afternoon******* slamming President Obama, saying that he had broken his faith with women by agreeing to issue an executive order that prohibits federal funding for abortions.**************** "The National Organization for Women is incensed that President Barack Obama agreed today to issue an executive order designed to appease a handful of anti-choice Democrats who have held up health care reform in an effort to restrict women's access to abortion. Through this order, the president has announced he will lend the weight of his office and the entire executive branch to the anti-abortion measures included in the Senate bill, which the House is now prepared to pass. "President Obama campaigned as a pro-choice president, but his actions today suggest that his commitment to reproductive health care is shaky at best. Contrary to language in the draft of the executive order and repeated assertions in the news, the Hyde Amendment is not settled law - it is an illegitimate tack-on to an annual must-pass appropriations bill. NOW has a longstanding objection to Hyde and, in fact, was looking forward to working with this president and Congress to bring an end to these restrictions. We see now that we have our work cut out for us far beyond what we ever anticipated. The message we have received today is that it is acceptable to negotiate health care on the backs of women, and we couldn't disagree more." Linda Mae - I know of nowhere where God indicated that he wanted the government to confiscate money for health care. There are plenty of references to individual mandates, to offer our help to those with less, but certainly nothing to say "rob Peter to pay Paul". In this case, the people did not win. Obama, Pelosi and a few far left won. The people have made it clear that they wanted health care reform, but absolutely not what either the house or the senate were proposing. So, go ahead and keep winking in your smugness, but don't attribute it to God. But then again, you may be right. There is definitely historical records that God punishes those that stray from His path and place false idols above him.

Lives of human beings? Like those 3,000 abortions every day? You say this is an answer to prayer? Only God knows His thoughts. Just because some prayed for this doesn't mean He gave them a yes answer. Others prayed that it would not happen and that doesn't mean He said no to them. His time is not ours. Maybe He hasn't given an answer yet...

Linda - There are many positive points in this bill, but why is there a Mandate for participation?  If Congress had the power (as they just exhibited) to pass a law that would have all the benefits you posted above - No Pre-Existing Condition Denial, No Maximum Payout, etc.  why did they need to include penalties (both monetary, and punitive) against people who do not wish to participate?

Many individuals simply make a value decision that they cannot afford health insurance, and they choose to self insure, or they would prefer simple catastrophic circumstance insurance if it were available.  What will change for them other than the government will consider them to be law breakers if they continue to make that choice?  The only persons who are exempt have a poverty line income or less, but what about the working poor?  They do not have any extra income to spend on health care now, but they will no longer have the choice.

NO BILL REQUIRING MORE PAGES THAN THE BIBLE SHOULD EVER BE VOTED ON BY CONGRESS (LET ALONE PASSED)!  How much political pork is really hidden in these 1000's of pages?

We could have done better, and we certainly deserve better.  This bill is a travesty.

And we won't be asked if we voted to confiscate other people's money to give that help!

Maybe you know the Bible better than me, but I don't recall anywhere in the scriptures where Jesus said that one group of peoiple should sieze money from others in order to give it away...  That isn't generosity, that is theft.

Will your answer be: I did not need to help any individual because my government took over that "right" on my behalf.

I can only take responsibility for my own actions, and I prefer teaching a man how to fish rather than giving him a fish.  I think our founding father's view (the ones who were not afraid to state In God We Trust) resembles this more than the government control currently being promoted.

It looks like the fun has begun -

12 States File Lawsuits Against Mandatory Insurance

From about 6 paragraphs in -

"Twelve state attorneys general, all of whom are Republican, have already filed suits to block the health care bill on the grounds that its requirement that everyone have health insurance is unconstitutional. Four state legislatures have already passed laws blocking the bill."

And phooey on those that are perfectly willing to ignore the Constitution in order to pass an agenda.  At that point, we cease to be a Republic and become a nation of whim.
