15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake. Largest ever caught on record.

After seeing this, I did a little research, and learned the following:

One bite from a snake this large contains enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men.

The head alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man.

This snake was probably alive when George H. W. Bush was President.

A bite from those fangs would equal being penetrated by two  1/4 inch screwdrivers.

A snake this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child.

A snake this size has an approximately 5 and 1/2 foot accurate striking distance. (The distance for an average size Rattlesnake is about 2 feet)

Judging by the size of the snake, it is estimated to weigh over 170 pounds. How much do you weigh?

Ok I'm sufficiently scared now. I weigh 128, so it could definitely overtake me. Great photo!

Gadz, I thought the Rattlers in AZ were big! I'm not so sure this is a great marketing tool for your area. That picture is enough to keep from even visiting.

BTW what did they do with the snake? You know it tastes like chicken.

TruthorFiction.com says:  The Truth:
This tale is fiction.   A public information officer with the St. Johns County Sheriff's department told TruthOrFiction.com that there was an incident involving a large Eastern diamondback rattlesnake in July 2009 but the snake was 7'3" in length.

The photos, taken by an unidentified civilian, were an unintentional trick of camera perspective.   The captured snake was closer to the photographer than the law enforcement officer shown in the background.   This made the venomous reptile appear larger than life.

Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes in the wild have been known to grow up to 8' in length.

Honestly, I think this is a hoax. According to the website www.rattlesnakes.us Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes only grow to a length of 5-6 feet.

I wouldn't want to meat a 15 feet rattlesnake in my back yard. That's for sure

This is a hoax.  There is no tape measure alongside the snake or other certified documentation to prove it is truely 15ft.   The perspective shows the snake closer to the camera.  So, it can't be the largest rattler ever caught.  The most toxic land snake in the Western Hemisphere appears to be the Tiger rattler found in Arizona (0.06 mg/kg LD50 for a mouse).  Of course, it bitten, would one die like a man or a mouse? Ha, ha!

AARRGGHH!!!
B.S.,years ago I worked in underground construction and in a remote construct in Oviedo fl was the runover remains of an eastern that went across both lanes of a newly paved road. There were nearly a foot of in over both sides of the road.I am sure there a quite a few big ones left but only in really remote areas.Tell the scientists and experts to get out in the field 8 to 12 hours a day for 10 or 15 years. They really might be surprised at what they find!!!
