Crystal Lake Ellington

Crystal Lake EllingtonLocated in Ellington Connecticut, Crystal Lake is a natural body of water that covers around 200 acres of area.  Though it averages about 20 ft in depth, it can reach as deep as 50 ft in certain places.  Crystal Lake Ellington is home to an abundance of plant and wildlife, and as been preserved extremely well, considering the amount of development happening around it.  Because of it's level of preservation, it is studied regularly by botanists, researchers and ecology students at the nearby University of Connecticut.  The entire Crystal Lake Ellington area features beautiful, pristine scenery, and is a significant draw for local residents and visitors alike.

Crystal Lake Ellington has a rich regional history.  Artifacts discovered around the lake have indicated that Native Americans called the Nipmucs inhabited the area originally.  These Nipmucs, of the Algonquian people, were native to the northern Connecticut/Southern Massuchessetts area, up until the 17th and 18th centuries.  Their name for the lake was Wabbaquassett, meaning "Where the Cattails grow".  The name was then changed to Ruby Lake, after settlers found garnets in the surrounding area.  In 1889, local officials changed the name to Crystal Lake, due to the impression one gets, when looking across its pure, clear waters.

Crystal Lake Ellington is quite beautiful indeed, and gives the surrounding area a great deal of added value.  Its shore is laced with private homes, as it makes for beautiful scenery, and great swimming and fishing.  The homes in the region are highly coveted, and serve to compliment the natural beauty of the area.  Imagine having 200 acres of beautiful clear water to gaze across whenever you look out at your backyard.  That is one of the many benefits that area residents enjoy.  Crystal Lake Ellington is not only a beautiful place to visit, but a beautiful place to live!

Reminds me a lot of the beautiful lakes that we have here in Northern Michigan.  Nothing more calming than a beautiful body of water.
