Looking for Wifi

By
Real Estate Agent with The Berkshire Group Realtors

Wifi is not such a big deal anymore.  Whole communities sometimes are wired, offering the service free to whocoffee shop ever wants to use it.  Logging on is usually as simple as turning on your computer.

However not everyone knows what wifi is.

If you want to have some fun, next time you go into a place that proudly displays the "Free Wifi" sign, just ask for a cup of coffee and some free wifi (pronounce it wiffy).  Be sure to keep an earnest look on your face, no smiling either.

Let me know how it goes...

When we were on vacation they had free wiffy at the hotel where we stayed for the night.  It didn't work from our room.  It didn't work from the lobby either.  It was really wiffy cuz it sure wasn't wifi.

Oh, how embarassing.  All these years I've been saying WHY-FI.  Oops.  No one ever said anything.  They probably roll their eyes after I leave the room.

KK,

Thanks for the pronounciation guide. I, too, have always called it Why-Fi. But, now, I'm just going to be wiffy with my why-fi.

The things we learn on AR!

That's the thing about a town that's 20 years behind anyway. No matter how I ask I'd get the same exact look.

The correct pronunciation IS Why-Fi ... Kristal was just having fun. In fact, Wi-Fi is a brand (according to Wikipedia) "to describe the underlying technology of wireless local area networks ..."

Kristal,

An agent told me that we will have soon free wireless on Colorado, I do not believe it, she saw it somewhere on the news,  it is a gold mine to charge for the service, why free?

If you want to see some really puzzled looks on faces walk in to a McDonalds and ask for a half dozen Chicken McNuggets (don't worry you won't have to eat them) ;-)

Don't be surprised if the counter person tells you that you can only get quantities of 4, 6, 8, or 12; they don't sell them by the half dozen.

????Huh????

True story, I've done it.

Did you know that San diego County is slated to be the first completely free Wi-Fi connected coast?  When I heard that, I thought who in their right mind will want to bring their laptop to the beach?

I watched the sun drop into the ocean tonight at a park overlooking the water, seated at a picnic table, laptop ajar, while checking e-mail.

Sometimes, the government gets it right

Friday evening, Medford & joined up at the coffee shop for dinner (PLEASE don’t tell anyone we actually ate there—it would ruin our reputation as “coffee drinkers only!). This was after I read this post.

“George, howya doin’,” I asked as our waiter arrived with the obligatory water, “ya got wiffy?”

“You mean waffles?” he asked.

“No, wiffy.” I replied, “Starbucks has it, and it’s free.”

“And it’s really great,” added Medford the, techno-geezer, picking up on the joke.

“Ya can’t get waffles at Starbucks,” George replied, becoming a bit defensive.

“Okay then, if you don’t have wiffy, I just have tonight’s special.”

Friday fun—indeed!

good joke! I always say Why-fi and I do that because of the term hi-fi. Should I say that hiffy? When I went to the local McDonalds they had free WiFi and I asked them about "wiffy" they told me that they don't sell that. Ok,ok, ok, so not all people are tech-literate.
