Just How Far Can The Airlines Push Us?

Brian Williams just reported on the Nightly News that Spirit Airlines has begun charging 45.00 for passengers to place a carryon bag in the overhead!!! He also said that unless passengers begin raising *&^%, this kind of treatment will only get worse. Well, I am ready to raise some *&^%!

I don't know about you, but I am outraged at the gouging of the airlines toward it's passengers.

Enough is Enough!

How long will it take for all the other airlines to jump on board with this? How long did it take for them all to begin charging for checked bags? Not very long at all, as I recall.

Rise up, America!

What can we do to show them that we won't tolerate these absurd fees? I would really like to hear your thoughts on this, Rainers!

Debi - I too was outraged about this.  Even more so that they would even think to start charging for use of the restrooms.  I just came back from driving my son to the airport for a transatlantic flight.  He does not a fly frequently, but being 6'3" he requested an aisle seat with some legroom and was hit with a $59.00 bill for the provelege.  Seeing as there were no other free aisle seats, he was stuck with the charge.  It seems these days that if we want to fly in comfort, it'll be costing us a hefty amount over and above the cost of a ticket.  UGH!!

Would most people be reacting with this much outrage if they had just raised the ticket prices by the same amount? Probably not.

By most accounts, Southwest is managing quite well, with reasonable fares, and not implementing all these ridiculous extra charges. if this is so, why can't the others manage it? Unfortunately for me, Southwest does not fly out of Colorado Springs.

I do wish that they flew to Charlotte!  I've flown them before from Denver to Dallas and loved their service.

I know what my husband would say: AMTRAK!

Business people won't mind paying it because they just charge it to the company, which then increases the cost of its products to us, the consumers. If businesses would do more teleconferencing, and vacationers would do more driving, we could put the airlines out of business, but then we'd miss them.
