I think these are a type of agave or cactus...not a tree or shrub.  Don't know what they are called.  Does anyone know what these are?

You know, I was just thinking that they look like giant cattails. Of course, they would be growing under opposite conditions since cattails grow in marshes, but they could be related... Now this is going to drive me nuts! I may have to re-blog this, just to find out what these are. lol!
