I came across a post the other day that discussed the basis and breakdown of the mortgage meltdown. Although it was an excellent post, one of the commenters caught my attention by mentioning his/her disdain for REO and Short Sale listing agents
WHADDAYA MEAN???? As a short sale listing agent in Newnan, GA (Coweta County), I was kinda put off by his comment because he mentioned that we were profiting off of a negative situation. Funny, but I NEVER thought of it in that light. In fact, I've always felt a huge sense of accomplishment and achievement whenever I've helped a homeowner escape from the burden of an troublesome mortgage. In each instance, these homeowners have faced an extreme hardship including, but certainly not limited to; loss of a spouse, loss of a job or reduced pay/hours, illness (sometimes even to the point of debilitation!) The reality is, when I sit down with them at the kitchen table and we begin discussing options, a look of relief floods their faces and hope begins to flood the room. Some people are desperate for solutions. They're simply not behind on their mortgages because they'd rather go shopping or escape to some exotic location; they've experienced a life changing phenomenon that suddenly has them barely able to tread water and guess what......I CAN PROVIDE A SOLUTION!!!! If you've ever experienced the exhilaration of helping someone find solace and peace in the midst of a storm, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Believe me, I'm not some predator who swamps down upon an unassuming victim waiting to devour what's left of their flesh just for the sheer joy of making a sale.... In fact, our commissions from short sales and REO sales are much lower than our commissions from normal market sales....kinda just boots your theory out of the water, huh???? I just happen to be someone who finds fulfillment in helping others and for that, I am not ashamed.
