Inna Hardison and HaMedia Group Rock! And Why What You Say on ActiveRain Counts

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Royal (Jordan)/Ready, Set...Sold! www.readysetsold.ca

Fellow Rainer Inna Hardison of HaMedia Group rocks!  She and hubby Jon Hardison, owners of HaMedia Group, did the concept, design and printing of a new postcard that I'll be sending out in my real estate territory of Kirkland, Quebec.

There's been a lot of talk lately about postcard campaigns: Do you or don't you?  And if you do, how do you do it?  Consistently, the advice has been that if you're going the postcard route, make sure it looks great and grabs attention, and make sure you're consistent -- as in, just one mail-out won't cut it.

So, I was looking for a company that could do something pretty fantastic...for not a whole lotta dough.

Enter HaMedia Group.

Seeing Inna's comments on a competition I ran here a couple of months ago, I knew she was creative, thoughtful, edgy and comfortable thinking outside the box.  I'm not linking to that post here because it was Members Only.  But Inna's comments on my post were every bit as witty and creative as those of Paul Slaybaugh and Andrew Lenza.  And that's saying something!

So I e-mail Inna and ask for rates.  She gives me a ridiculously low rate for designing my postcard.  Honestly, it was next to nothing.  Then she comes up with a concept quickly, after asking me for information about my target market.

I behave like a pain in the BEEhind...you know, waffling and changing direction more than a few times.

Postcard

With patience and humour, Inna and Jon bring me back to my audience and my message and offer advice beyond just what looks and sounds good.

The total cost?  About 10 cents a card -- for an original, 6" X 7", colour, double-sided, glossy card printed on recycled paper with soy-based ink, delivered to my door.

I'm really excited about it because it's unlike anything anyone around here has seen from a real estate agent...at least in the 10 years I've lived in Kirkland, Quebec.

But you be the judge.  Here it is.

And my market will be the judge too. The postcards go out next week.

By the way, because they're just the best, Inna and Jon are offering a discount to all of my readers here:  15% off of anything in their print shop -- good through Friday, May 7, 2010.  The Coupon Code to enter during checkout is CuzTanyasCool (clearly their idea, not mine : )!

AND they're running a crazy 30% off sale on business cards right now too.  For this, the Coupon Code is 5-demayo, and that runs 'til May 5th, 2010

Thanks, Inna and Jon. You rock.

@ Barbara,

I remember, and not once and not twice the comments about 'I' in advertising. "....I stage your home....I market your home....I sell your home...Call Me Now.....You'll Be Glad You Did!!"

If you read it, it is about you. I do not know which age group you are working with, as baby boomers most probably be responsive, but younger generation are unlikely to respond. I deal with them, and they can't care less about us, it is about WHAT THEY GET.

In that sense even "I will help you" is still about us... and real estate is more and more not about us...

I think you have an awesome web address.  I'd just put that on the front of a post card with a tag line under it:

www.ReadySetSold.ca

Helping you get from For Sale to Sold more profitably!

OK - I spent 30 seconds on the tag line, but you get the idea.  ONE idea.  Bold.

Good luck with your next mailing -- I'd love to see what you come up with!

@ Richard - wow, that was fast.  And here i was for a week or so thinking about my client's market and just what to say to the kinds of people who would be getting the postcards in a nifty Canadian suburb; something that might be emotionally palatable...  Yep, the money statement again, goes straight to the heart.

PS: Though some heavy-hitters and quite a few commenters have already decided on the failure of this campaign, it would be only prudent, for statistical purposes at least, to see how this mailing works out.  Heck, she's got a few boxes of cards to mail out before the verdict is in, metinks.

My 2 cents, too busy, with fonts, italics, bold, black white-for the text. Even though its a busy postcard the picture of the room is very calming, and shades of the blue, well I think of the ocean or the blue skies.

To me, the impression the card leaves is just as important as the words.

@Inna -- Don't get me wrong - I like a whole lot of what you did!  My point is that it is just so dense with information, it might be a bit too much for a post card.  But I've been wrong before (ask friends, family and co-workers -- I've been wrong many times before!!).

My tactic is to have simple post cards that entice people to go to the web, where your post card format might really work well as a web page.

Tanya and Inna:  Here is a copy of the comment I just made on Lenn's post.  I love the card.  It IS definitely something I would use.  Seller's are scared right now, and I see this card as something designed to quell those fears, and something that offers a definite solution, or at least an "understanding heart..." to a home seller in need.

Lenn Just as it is hard for you, or for anyone, to please everyone... it is also hard for a card... a "mailer" to appeal to everyone.  I think if something was designed to appeal to everyone... or designed to contain the sales "tactics"... and I do not mean that in a negative way... that you have found wanting in the card/mailer... the Who, What, Where stuff... it would be aimed at, or appeal to, a different market than that which the card was aimed at.

There are many, many kinds of people out there.  Many different kinds of personalities that can be "mailed to."  Nothing appeals to everyone.  Nothing.  Was your comment a "wet blanket ?"  Of course it way.  You expressed your opinion... which kinda/sorta told me that either the card did not appeal to you... or it would not be a mailer that you would use.  Fine.

Say what you wish... but I thought it was an excellent card.  But, again.  Excellent for using the card to mail to whom ?

I followed your link to Lenn's blog and posted a comment there.  I would only advise to watch the dollars spent and make sure the return is worth it.  It does not look like you are jumping in with both feet but just sticking a toe and and I would advise that strategy.

Inna does great work! Awesome post card. Concise and to the point. Very clean design. Way to go on getting your web presence out there. If anything, a well designed postcard will get traffic to the website.

@ Richard -- My husband said the exact same thing!  In fact, that was his original idea -- just use the name of my company because it's intriguing and says a little something in and of itself.  My fear was that the little something it said would not be enough to compel people to find out more.

@ Karen Anne -- Thank you for your thoughtful comments, both here and on Lenn's post.  You presented very well the notion that one size does not fit all.  My sentiments exactly : )

To everyone: This post was initially intended as a "Inna and Jon are a great resource for us RE professionals" post.  Somehow, it turned into what you see above, which was a critique of the postcard we developed together.

Lenn's comment left too much unsaid so I encouraged her to share her thoughts here. She chose to write a separate post because she found her comments too long.

Barbara, whom I respect enormously and who I know really does have my best interests in mind, shared her comments with me privately. I encouraged her to share them here as well.  I personally think it is far more damaging to say "I'll share my thoughts with you privately" than it is to come right out and say what you mean.

That said, I did NOT intend for this post to be a back and forth about the pros and cons of this particular postcard, though I do believe we all learned a lot from it.  I really do.

What this post was intended to say was the following:

Inna and Jon do great work.  You can check out some samples of their work on their web-site. And they're offering great discounts to all of us, on top of their unbeatable prices.

ON TOP OF THAT, their level of service is outstanding. They are patient, answer questions within minutes, offer more information than I'm paying them to, and -- perhaps most importantly -- they really GET me and what I'm trying to achieve. I'm sure they do the same for all their clients.

Tanya - first new subscription for me in a VERY VERY long time is your blog. I'm not here on AR much, but have dropped in to read some of Paul and Andrew's comments from time to time and found consistently good stuff and a fine sense of humor. This debate has been a good read and handled quite eloquently. Kudos.

Hi, I'm Elaine. Pleased to meet you.

Inna, my husband need simple, classic business cards, like, yesterday. Let's talk.

Happy visiting of Inna and Jon.  You'll like it there...

Hi Tanya...Read your post, all the comments, read Lenn's post, and all the comments.  I'm wishing everyone, sending out postcards, lots of new and profitable business.

I'm in a quandry about what kind of post cards to send out and am now thinking of writing a post to see if I can get some guidance.

Good luck with your campaign.
