A Well-Chosen Path

The right path in the woodsA Well-Chosen Path

Much has been written about finding the right path in life.  Many of these books line my own bookshelves.

My favorites are: "Think and Grow Rich," "Looking Out for Number One," "Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude" and "What Color is Your Parachute?"  Some of these books are old, their pages are now yellow but their meanings still hold true.

The changing economy over the past few years has forced so many people to have to rethink their original strategies and test new directions.

I feel fortunate that I love what I do and it has worked out well for me.

Although I am intrigued with the beauty of  fine architecture, a career in real estate has not been about houses.  It has clearly been about people.  Helping someone to find the right home is helping them to change their life and often, their lifestyle. And that has been rewarding in many ways.

For those who do have to change paths it is always best to think about what you love.  What do you naturally enjoy doing?  Make a list, no matter how strange it seems.  It will ultimately lead you to explore possibilities that are attractive to you.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses; capacities and limitations; attractions and aversions.

Life is too finite to spend it working at something you do not enjoy.  Take classes; talk with people who are doing interesting work. Keep exploring until you are united with the thing that makes you content.

Do what you love - and the money will follow.

Great thought provoking post Claudette!

One thing that always intrigued me was how some folks can't wait until they retire. They work in the field they've chosen and then can't wait to retire from it.

As for me, I love what I do and they're going to have to drag me out of selling Real Estate kicking and screaming!

Craig:

That is an interesting image - one that you should portray in your blog, of you being dragged away from real estate kicking and screaming...

I feel the same way.  If you love what you do, why would you want to stop?

Some of those books might be old with yellow pages, but they are in multiple printings and easily available online! LOL

Hi Claudette... this is a post filled with great observations, insights and guidance.  I have always like the advice you closed with: "Do what you love - and the money will follow."

Russel:

Yes, it is great that those books are now easily available to everyone since they are treasures that we can all learn from.

Hi, Steve:

Thanks for that. I like that expression as well. Too many people spend their days doing things that they do not enjoy. Life is just too short for that.
