MUST SEE: Straits Restaurant, Singaporean Fusion, City Center, West Houston

Be prepared for a great culinary experience at Straits Restaurant (www.straitsrestaurants.com)!  Straits Restaurant is a fusion restaurant which blends the four major culinary cultures in Singapore (Malay/Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and Nonya).  One thing unique is their treatment of the staple rice dish.  They steep it in flavors like Hainan chicken or coconut to access the palate exploding with wonderful tast.  Each dish is plated for a visually appealing display.  For example, the salads like the banana blossom salad are so exquisite and beautiful to the eye.  There are surprising dishes like curried collard greens which can be seen as a mix of Indian and Soul Food.  LOL.

Straits Restaurant provides four unique and hip spaces to entertain, to enjoy one another's company or to meet new people.  The restaurant has an open view into the preparation area as each specialty is plated with unique presentations in mind.  The Straits Restaurant lounge bar has a hip New York vibe with large contemporary seating as you partake of the happy hour specials.  Best times to go are Wednesday evenings or on the weekends for great people watching.  The outdoor patio is an extension of the bar/lounge where you can enjoy the view of the City Center main green space which blends earth/stone, fire(gas censers) and water providing a relaxing outdoor experience.  Try the outdoor cabana areas which provide a quiet and semi-private space for relaxing and entertaining your friends.

The restaurant hostess Laney says that the best features of Straits Restaurant besides the Fusion fare are the unique cocktail specials and blends: Lychee Martini, Lemongrass Mojito, Pomegranate Margarita and more!  Be sure to say hello to Laney when you stop by.  Also, during happy hour feast on the Singapore Satay Sticks and the Calamari.
