Calling all Reno area artists! A Reno area artist(s) will be chosen to paint the Reno Windspire wind turbine on July 8, 2010 live during the Reno Artown festivities. A partnership between Artown, Windspire Energy and the City of Reno, this special project is meant to bring attention to Reno's support of the arts and renewable energy. The City of Reno believes that the Reno Artown event is the perfect opportunity to do both.
Along with the City of Reno and Windspire Energy, the winner(s) of the contest will help develop and paint the design that will decorate the 10 foot pole that will serve as the base of the Windspire. The Windspire wind turbine will eventually sit atop the roof of the City of Reno's parking gallery located in Downtown Reno. All artists must be at least 16 years old, automobile grade paint is required to help guard against weather damage and an anti-graffiti coating must also be added. This wind turbine is only one part of the City's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Initiative.
All Reno area artists, from both the Northern Nevada and Northern California areas, will need to submit their qualifications to Windspire Energy (5450 Louie Lane, Reno, NV) by 5pm on Monday, May 24, 2010. All interested parties can download their application at the Windspire Energy website, complete the form and email it back to Kristyn Bishop. If you need more information, please call Kristyn directly at 775-852-0200 ext 224. Finalists will be selected on June 1, 2010 by the Selection Committee.
So, the City is calling all Reno area artists to help design and paint the Windspire wind turbine base to show Reno's support of the arts and renewable energy. If you're an artist, now's your chance to help the City shine as well as your artistic talent.Bookmark & Share
