Be Warned: "REO Networking" Event from Chris Joyce and Brian Bailey

By
Real Estate Agent with Neighborly Realty & Neighborly Financial

Hello fellow real estate and mortgage professionals.

A quick warning so you don't waste your valuable time.

Our office received a call last week from a gentleman named "Chris Joyce".  He was pulling together a group of "15 to 20 local Realtors to meet with 50 to 75 banks and lenders - for networking and working towards REO listings".

Here is a copy and paste of the exact text from Chris' email message:

 >>>  Please mark your day planner for this Thursday so you don't schedule over us as are limiting the number of realtors we bring out to this event. I will give you a call Wednesday to go over all of the details and make sure you are all set to go. Any questions let me know. I look forward to seeing you out there Thursday.

We are only bringing out about 15 realtors and are expecting between 50 and 75 on the bank side. They will be coming from a number of different banks and mortgage companies. Make sure you bring plenty of business cards.

Too good to be true?

Possibly, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt.

I dragged a subset of our team down to take a look.  Don't get me wrong... we prepared as if this was legit.  All of our glossy marketing materials, our recruiting packets, information on our existing bank partnerships, our HUD and Freddie Mac linkages, information on the 4 associations we belong to, copies of our listing movies (more than virtual tours), even printed resume's.... a few hours of prep work.

Oh, and we had to pay for parking.

Turns out?

Chris Joyce was pulling people in for a Brian Bailey coaching and hard sell seminar.  It looked like over 50 Realtors, and 1 vendor - Allstate Insurance.  Talking to the Allstate guy as we left?  He had no idea what was being presented today.

Nothing was as promoted.  A few of us left the event early and let the staff at the front door know exactly how we felt about being duped.

Now - Perhaps Brian's materials and tools are wonderful.  Perhaps he and his team could increase our business by 100 fold.  Perhaps he is another Buffini or Stump.  Again, we will give him the benefit of the doubt.  His materials could be fantastic.  We will never know.

If so, then why the false pretenses?

Be up front with your services and your offerings.

So fellow professionals - just a quick word of caution.  If you get this phone call or email, know that it is not as advertised.  In this short sale world, we need to be careful with our time.  Every moment is valuable.  Hopefully this note will help you prioritize the limited time we allot to seminar, networking, and training time.

- Jim

Insurance Agent
I wanted to reach out to you quick through email to see if you are focusing on the property and casualty side of business. I was hoping that you might be able to take a few clients yourself or point me in the direction of someone who is at this time. I am trying to find an insurance agent who is looking to take on clients and build relationships with local mortgage companies and real estate firms. My Company, The Business Network is holding an event for roughly 100 area mortgage brokers and Realtors on Thursday, March 27th over at the Marriott and we are looking for an agent who is looking to write quite a few more home owners policies. We will only bring in 1 Insurance Agency to work with between 75 to 100 mortgage and Real estate professionals. We do want to make sure the insurance agent has a clean record and no complaints with the BBB or local Chamber of Commerce. The attendees have been qualified before the workshop to ensure we are not just putting on a free breakfast and getting a room full of “plate lickers.” We do our best to ensure most attendees have been in the industry for more than ten years and are top producers in their profession. The main point of emphasis in our workshop is to get these business owners to develop a business team. This will allow them to ensure growth on a yearly basis through a true referral network. We are teaching them the importance of having a serving mentality for their client and not just calling around begging for business. The cost to be the only insurance agent on hand is only $500. So as I said I am looking for an agency who is taking on clients on the P and C side. I will be talking to 3 or 4 agents in the area over the next day or two to fill that one insurance agency position for our workshop. If you are in a growth mode and want to have a 10 to 15 minute conversation about what my company does and what happens at our workshop let me know and I will give you a call. I look forward to hopefully speaking with you. Thanks, Christopher Joyce 585-444-8361 www.thebusinessnetworkllc.com chris@thebusinessnetworkllc.com

Alive & Well In Irvine, CA. ***Thank you for the warning Active Rain! ***

Hi I wanted to reach out to you quick this morning because I am looking for another lender to come out and work with about 75 Realtors next Friday morning. My company The Business Network is holding an event over at the Irvine Marriott next Friday, April 11th from 8 A.M. to 1 P.M. (Breakfast from 8 A.M. to 9 A.M.) We need to have a few lenders in attendance to be able to work with these Realtors and hopefully get any of their clients prequalified that haven't already done so. There is no cost to attend, you can bring business cards and whatever other marketing materials you would like. Please let me know if you would make it out to all or part of the event.

Thanks,

Amanda Miller
