It's nice to just chill in the 22nd craziest city in America

Contact Jim Frimmer for all your San Diego real estate needsSince I'm not having an open house tomorrow due to a day out with some ActiveRain friends, I'm kind of chilling tonight, watching the Celtics blow out the Orlando Magic, writing blog posts, looking at the draw for the French Open tennis championships, and reading some old newspapers.

One of the interesting (i.e., weird) stories in a March 13 newspaper is about a study on craziness. Apparently, how crazy a city's citizens are is determined by the number of psychiatrists per capita; stress level as deermined by a Gallup survey; drinking habits, as determined by data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and a "random gauge of a city's eccentricity by a travel writer." Hmmm.

So where does San Diego rank? #22.

Craziest city was Cincinnati, followed by San Francisco.

Most psychiatrists per capita? San Francisco. I don't find that surprising. LOL. Last on the list was Hartford, Connecticut.

Most stressed city? Memphis, followed by Philadelphia and Cleveland. Maybe all those psychiatrists in San Francisco are doing their job because San Francisco was rated the least stressed city.

The drunkest city? Las Vegas and Milwaukee tied for #1. Nashville was the most sober. Wonder where New Orleans ranks.

And lastly, the most eccentric city: New Orleans, followed by San Francisco. Indianapolis has the most square citizens.

Who dreams up these studies, and do they get public funding?

I thought San Francisco was going to be right up there at the top!  LOL.  I lived there for over 25 years and there were a lot of "crazies" for sure... the interesting thing is that the crazies were not natives of San Francisco.. so I think the study is a bit flawed!

Too funny Jim. I'm a bit miffed that Cambridge didn't even make the list - I certainly think we're contenders! Boston's on there at #31 but it seems to me there are some pretty staid metropolises among the 30 more highly ranked.  Crazy list!

Hi Jim-

I am fascinated by the method for measuring craziness.  How do they measure for the drunkest, or the most eccentric?

We need more information?

What if the psychiatrists in San Francisco just chose to live there because they like it?  I sure hope that my tax dollars aren't paying for any of these 'studies'.

Hello Jim - I wonder how these studies get funded as well.  I bet they pay pretty well.

Jim...Sure is a funny and rather pointless list.  How much does that kind of thing cost?  Does anyone really care?  Most relocations probably don't check the study before the move. LOL

Interesting study, Jim! I'll have to hunt it down and see where the Texas crazies are.

Yikes! San Antonio is the craziest city in Texas! In fact, it's ranked #9 on the list! I'd better phone in a special session with my therapist to talk about this...
