San Francisco's Lombard Street video Crookedest Street in America

From Val Vista Lakes Gilbert AZ to the Golden Gate Bridge

During the Memorial Day weekend, my wife and I flew from Val Vista Lakes in Gilbert AZ to the San Francisco Bay area to visit one of our daughters and her family.

While we were there, on Tuesday our son-in-law drove us to San Francisco for lunch and so I could video Lombard Street, a great tourist attraction in San Francisco.

The video begins as we cross the Bay Bridge from Oakland to San Francisco. This bridge was completed in 1936 and you can find photographs and the construction history on this Bay Bridge History site.

On the bridge there is a spectacular view of the city skyline, Alcatraz, Angel Island and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.

The video cuts to Hyde Street which is where the Hyde Street Cable Car operates. The hill is very steep, and as you come up to other cross streets, you’ll see that they are almost blind intersections due to the steepness of the hill.

Before we turn onto Lombard Street, as the cable car starts downhill, there is a nice view of Alcatraz and the San Francisco Bay. At the bottom of Lombard, there is a wonderful view of Coit Tower, which resembles a Firefighters water hose. From Val Vista Lakes Gilbert AZ to Lombard Street

Then we turn to view the cars coming down Lombard, and admire the beautiful landscape and flowers that are so well manicured.

The video ends as my wife and son-in-law cross the street after posing for pictures.

Captain Bill, love these photos.  We were in San Francisco recently and unfortunately it was raining most of the time, but your photos captured it!

Unfortunately, San Francisco can get foggy and rainy sometimes. Maybe next time it'll be better for you.

I guess that's why it's such a tourist attraction. People love it. It is noisy for the residents of the street, and those are very expensive homes. At times they have tried to stop traffic on the street but have never been successful.

Nice photos, Bill. Where in the Bay Area is your family? We're on the Peninsula, mid way between San Francisco and San Jose. Always something fun to do around here!

They're in Castro Valley. The grandson is in Castro Valley High. His younger sisters, and previously himself, went to Our Lady of Grace Elementary. It was too far for him to go to a Catholic High School, and he had also decided he wanted to attend a public high school.
