Do you correct people when they use the word "Real-A-Ter"?

I hear people use the term "Real-A-Ter" when pronouncing the word Realtor, and I actually do not correct them ALL them time.

It depends on who they are, if I know them or not, etc.  I may just let it go sometimes, but other times I don't want to come across as being condescending, yet at the same time I would like to spare them any embarrassment in the future by politely pointing out the correct pronunciation of the word.

How do you handle that when it happens, and what approach do you take?

Ralph, I would never correct anyone for mispronouncing any word, but I try to use the word when I am speaking to them and pronounce it correctly.............sometimes it works, sometimes......not so much.

I am like Roger, #2, I will not correct them.  But I will pronounce it correctly as I speak to them, maybe they will catch it, if they don't, there is nothing I can do about it.  Not everyone likes to be corrected.

Hi Ralph - If it's my husband or someone who works for me, I will correct them.  Otherwise, I just grin and bear it.

Ralph,  As a retired court reporter, I never correct speech unless it's one of my kids.  I notice it, and like the comments before me, I will try to work in the correct pronunciation.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Ralph. When they say it infront of me I repeat the word but correctly. That way their ego is not insulted.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Why bother?  It's like trying to convince slow drivers that they should be in the right lane.  For every one you correct, there will be ten more taking their place.  Besides, does it realaly matter?

Helping people build their dreams.

Pick your battles, Ralph!  Even some most-excellent agents refer to themseves as Real-a-ters!  I say it correctly, and hope others will learn frome example.
