Even a Small Room Can Have Style

Do you have a home with small rooms and lack style?      This does not have to be the case!   With the right pieces of furniture, accessories and splashes of color, this small space can make a huge impression!

Look at the light available in the room.    Natural light can add alot for the room.  To frame the light, use complimentary curtains, and preferably not dark colors.    Blinds can be too heavy, and curtains frame the natural picture.

Use additional lighting.    In a smaller room, light is very important.   There are many lamps out there that have character and can really add to the decor, and possibilities to include sleek or modern recessed lighting.

Keep colors bright.    When you use dark, heavy colors, it makes small spaces look smaller.    Use bright colors that will draw your focus, such as reds, yellows and blues.     Use these same colors in artwork and accessories such as throw pillows.

Storage is key in small spaces.    If you have collections of books, movies or even music, shelving units can really keep your collection organized.    There are pieces of furniture that double as storage for the kid's toys too!

Make the rooms look larger.    Glass and mirrors can give you a feel the room is larger.    Our eyes will go right thru a mirror.    Transparent and reflective surfaces can be a powerful way to play up the room's decor.     Another idea would be mirrored objects to create a larger room feel.

Do you have other ideas on how to create a larger room, when it is SMALL?

My son moved from a 4000 sq. ft. home about 2 years ago to a 600+ sq. ft. apt. in Waikiki. I call it is mini - mansion. It is so cute and well done. You don't have to have HUGE to be nice and a great home.

Even when you have small rooms, you have options to create a larger space.
