Jobs coming back to USA shores can only be good news. It doesn't seem to matter if homes are more affordable and rates are lower than ever. With an uncertain economy and job scarcity not many are willing to buy. But USA Today reports some encouraging news. GE is moving the manufacturing of its energy-efficient water heater from China to the US. While Ford announced it is bringing job from supplier pants back to these shores too. Though we're only talking about 400 jobs (GE) and about 2000 (Ford), it could be a growing trend.
The bringing back of American jobs is called "Onshoring" or Reshoring", call it whatever you want, it will be welcome news for those in the job market.
Among the reasons cited are frustration with the quality of the imports, the cost savings for the labor below expectations, theft of intellectual property and transportation costs. If the trend continues as expected it may be a bit easier to find that Made in America label once again. It may also mean that once again US manufacturing will be a major bolster for our economy. For us in the housing industry it can only be good news.
