While taking a much deserved long weekend road trip to Seattle for some R&R, I had a rare opportunity of leisure time to read through a stack of newspapers.
This headline caught my eye: Can You Teach a Bad Dog New Tricks?
BAD dog? What do they mean? Isn't it OLD dog? Don't they mean to be saying "Can you teach an OLD dog new tricks?" I jokingly refer to myself as an old dog learning new tricks, especially when it comes to SEO, social media and all things technological. Woof woof!
And the answer to the OLD dog version of the question is a resounding YES! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, I'm living proof! So what's this BAD dog question all about?
It turns out that it was a very interesting story about The Rehabilitation of Michael Vick's Pit Bulls, by Jim Gorant. It was really quite interesting. Rather than being destroyed, as most thought would be the fate of the dogs, the judge in that case set aside $1 million to rescue and rehabilitate the bad (viscious) dogs.
I found the artical very insightful. It chronicled the rehab efforts of giving these dogs a second chance at a decent quality of life. There were some wonderful success stories. A few continued to struggle with fear. A few who seemed well adjusted later regressed. Some are better than others, but overall these are happy dogs!
My mind immediately saw the parallels of my current personal rehabilitation efforts. No I'm not bad, but I have developed some limiting beliefs (bad) over the course of my life that have prevented me from accomplishing all I could have. I am changing that!
I have just finished week 7 of an 8 week coaching and conditioning program, BOLD. Business Objective - a Life By Design. As opposed to a life by default. It's all about mindset! Getting rid of bad habits and negative thoughts. Conditioning our minds to succeed at whatever it is that we desire in life, personally and professionally. It's been fun, it's been challenging, it's been life changing!
My weekend getaway came following our assignment to take at least one day off that week. I texted my coach, Brian, a photo of me catching up on my BOLD homework overlooking the Poulsbo Marina on Bainbridge Island. He replied with an order to turn off my phone and stop texting!
CAN you teach a bad dog new tricks? ABSOLUTELY!
Some of my favorite BOLD Laws:
Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change......Don't listen to your drunk monkey.......Don't mistake movement for achievement.......There is no try.......No pressure - no diamonds.......You get what you deserve in your imagination.......Complaining = garbage magnet.......Come from contribution.......Clarity is power!
I am so grateful for the BOLD opportunity that has been provided to me by Keller Williams Realty. If any of you ever have a chance to take the course, you absolutely should! Although it is offered through Keller Williams, it is open to anyone interested in taking their personal and professional lives to a higher and more rewarding level. And Coach Brian is a ROCK STAR!
