Do Not Spam List

By
Real Estate Agent with Lake and Lodge Realty LLC

Wouldn't it be nice if we could opt into a "Do Not Spam" list? I must get close to 200 spam emails a day in my business box that I am forced into sifting through making sure I am not missing an actual email. While the Do Not Call policy isn't perfect it has reduced the number of telemarketers that used to plague me so I think we need to come up with a Do Not Spam list that works. The whole unsubscribe button is useless and worse I always wonder if it doesn't increase the spam because by hitting it I have validated my mailbox as a working address to sell to....yet another spammer. Recently they have hit the Rain pretty hard. Trying to attach themselves to our SEO power. Please..Report all spammers and let's rid the Active Rain community of them once and for all. Thanks for reading.

Randy, I fully agree.  The ones that bother me the most are the ones that we get that tell us we are going to be getting an inheritance from overseas.  The names are off the board that are writing to us, and no matter how much we place these in spam, there are new scammers out there to take their place.  Great suggestion and something you can get a patent on is the "Do Not Scam List".

I agree. I know there is a "spam folder" for a lot of free email providers but the important mail always seems to end up there as well.

I have revamped the way that I broadcast my email.  When possible, I direct any email link to a forms tool on either AR or my website.  I remember Brad Andersohn pleading with us not to use our email addresses but rather use a form (preferably with Captcha or something similar).

I too get 25-50 spam emails each day, which most often go directly to the spam folder.     Otherwise, I unsubscribe as often as possible, as these all come to my smartphone.    When you are with a client, this is so annoying.

Think of what spam does for employment, though. I could hire two people full-time to sift through all the emails and empty out the spam.
