Did You Defy Physics Today and Make the Most of Your Day??

One of the nice benefits of living in the country is you just never know what "critter" may show up next.  We've had four young raccoons foraging for berries in the a tree in our front yard, chipmunks at the bottom of the driveway, running around like bumper cars with their tails straight up!  Just a riot to watch.

Our newest additions to the nature preserve, some hummingbirds!  So far, two female and one male have been working our feeder.  It's not like my granddad's in West Virginia where he'd have 40, 50 or more all waiting their turns to hit his feeders, but at least we've got a start.

The problem?  I'd love to get a picture, but two challenges... they're REALLY fast, and I'd guess they have superb eyesight too and know I'm just the other side of the window waiting with the finger on the camera ready to click!

What I usually get when I try to get their picture is this:

Feeder

See 'em there?  Nope, me neither...in, out and gone so fast it would embarass a ninja!

The best I've been able to do is this:
Hummingbird at feeder

and this:

Hummingbird at feeder 2

Don't adjust your prescription eyeglasses, it is a bit blurry, and in more ways than just their wings!

And you'd swear it would be impossible for them to fly the way they
do...isn't there some scientific study that says bumblebees and
hummingbirds can't fly?  But yet they do... there might be a lesson in
that for us too!  Trust your God given gifts and make the most of your
life!

Hope you're having a great week!

Carra, I need to break out the actual camera to have a prayer.  The cameraphone has a second or two delay between pressing the button and activating.  That's how I got the first picture!  There was one there when I pressed, but by click time, 30 feet away and perched in a tree!  Love to watch them!  We haven't had them every year, but more flowers in the yard and the feeder seem to be getting them in!

Liz, I think they like the feeder to be in the trees (or in the fern in my case) so they less exposed.  I can get mine to come around while I'm sitting 5 feet away as long as I'm still.

Shelley, You were our 2000th comment since we started blogging in June!  We don't have any trees close enough to the house to keep a close eye on the feeder.  There are a few close enough that they buzz over and guard the feeder from there!

Ah, yes, the problem with getting pictures of hummingbirds. I have tens of dozens around my house because I plant hummingbird-friendly plants. And guess how many hummingbird pictures I've gotten? Well, I think you're ahead of me with just this one post. LOL

We've got three regulars now, one male, two female.  All of them try to chase the others off.  We bought a 2nd feeder yesterday, just need to put it out.  Hopefully it will diminish the turf wars!
