The 162nd Dutchess County fair began on Tuesday August 21st.   The first day was not so great because of bad weather but since then it has gotten progressively better.

I had not gone to the Fair in years but decided to go with my son today, and we certainly had a great time.  In the past we always attended on the weekend because of work schedule, now I realise we would have had a much better time going during the week since it is less crowded then.

There was so much to see and I made sure to see as much as possible in 3 hours.  First we had lunch, there was so much to choose from but we both decided on Gyros.

Next we moved over to the machines exhibition.  Here we saw some live demonstration.  The man on the crusher seem to have been a favorite of the crowd maybe it was the blue jean overalls.

We were very fascinated by a water mill which was built by Hugo Gardino of Ghent New York.  This was a replica of a water mill that was in used around 300 BC, and would have been the type of equipment owned by a Mongolian king.

There was so much to see in this section, here are some highlights.

We could not wait to get to this next section.

The Fair is such a great time for families to spend time together.  It was nice to see the grandparents with the grandchildren.

It was such a good feeling to pass by the rides without stopping.  I still have memories of spending hours in this section. Yes ! this is now history.

Time to leave but I can't find my car and this is why.

The fair is certainly a wonderful Hudson Valley event.  It is also a great economic boost for the Rhinebeck restaurants motels and inns.

It is not too late there are still three days left, this is a great way to spend the weekend.  I had a great time just spending 3 hours, just imagine what fun you could have if you spend the day

Jennifer, I've only been to the Duchess County Fair once, but I think it's one of the greatest fairs around.  Thanks for the nice photos.

Jennifer I could post those pictures and blog about the Saline fair. Ours is the first week in Sept. It was started years ago after the agricultural and harvest season. Then as school started they kept it that way. Now that is not very easy to get your kids are motivated for school and then the fair starts. But, it is fun and we enjoy it. Lots of networking.

Nice pictures. It's always good to spend quality time with the kids and have fun in the process.  Looks like you did exactly that at the fair.

Jennifer, I LOVE fairs, I would have never gotten away with only spending three hours!  We have the Old Bethpage Village Restoration and I've been there over the summer, it took me a full day to see it all and I loved it!  I'm glad you had a great time!

Jennifer, we usually go to the Fair in Durham, CT and it draws about 300,000+  people for the weekend.  But it seems to be a given that it will rain on at least one of the days.  But even with the rain, everything goes on and people still find a way to have fun.

Jennifer: I was there yesterday also!!  My husband and I went for first time since our youngest left home for college (she is 28 now). I wrote about her and the fair in another post. Anyway, I was very blue about her birthday.  Usually I am ok but this year it really hit that she was so far away in Atlanta. So my husband and I went and we looked at all the animals she always looked at, and ate some of the food she used to eat and stopped at many places and recollected our time their on her past birthdays.  When we got home we called her to wish her a Happy Birthday and told her we went. She was excited and started blurting out all these memorie she had of the fair. Needless to say by the end of the phone there wasn't a dry eye in the place!  It was like we were there together.  Glad you had a great time and great photos.

Carole - Three hours happens to be my limit,  I think I saw what I wanted to.   I know most people would spend the day not me.

George - You are right, people alway find ways to have fun at the fair even when it rains.  I guess there is enough indoor exhibitions to keep them occupied.

Marchel - I really had fun,  the pigs were also my favorite I was trying to get a good shot of a group of piglets but was not successful.

Diana - Sorry you were missing your daughter, they grow up too fast and go off on their own and it can be a difficult adjustment for the parents.  We will have lunch soon, I am out of town for the week.

Paula- The fair seem to be a traditional American pastime and why not, each member of the family can find something of interest there.

Karen - I hope you make it to the Newfoundland fair a great activity before the end of the warm weather.

Jennifer, I got a kick out of not having to stop for the rides and especially when you couldn't find your car. Been there, done that!
