HELP!!! I Need Some Advice on Using Charts, Graphs & Market Reports (30DC13)

By
Mortgage and Lending with Los Angeles & Ventura Counties in CA

This is my second attempt at trying to learn to incorporate charts, graphs and market reports into my blog.  My first attempt was actually pretty lame; I read a bunch of blogs, poured over Renee Burrow's blog trying to learn how she does it.  You see, if I can't get them to look even half as great as Renee's (see below), then I don't want to do them.

I really like charts and graphs and I truly believe that when done right and with the right market info, consumers and prospective home buyers like them too.  I think, when charts and graphs are really appealing and interesting, consumers will actually find them informative.

Armed with some really great info from the AR charts & graphs queen and my market info, I'm going to start incorporating market reports with charts and graphs into my blog.  I'm sure that I will run into some issues so if anyone has any tips, suggestions or short cuts you think I need to know, please feel free to provide as much info as you want.  I want to learn as much as I can about doing this.

Hi Donne,

I, too, have learned from the best!  Renee's tutorial is what got my feet wet and then I played around from there.  My charts are no where as sophisticated as Renee's but it works for me although I'm always trying to improve it.  If you ever have any questions, please reach out for me.  I'm not sure if I can help, but I will certainly try.

Good luck and I look forward to viewing your market reports.

I use MS Excel to create my charts.  It's fairly easy to start with.  You just need to experiment with the different types of charts, and colors.

I can't help.  I am also looking for the ultimate chart.  I will watch and see what comes up here.

Donne, Have always used Excel for making charts.  As an engineer, I use a statistical analysis package called Minitab for more complex analysis, but it doesn't do "pretty".  Everything is more or less black and white.  Excel can do the pizzazz with backgrounds, fill, shading, etc.

Hey Donne!  I would love to assist you.  I am pretty busy for the next week and my email got screwed up for some reason on Saturday and I switched from yahoo to gmail a couple of days ago.

Excel is fairly easy to use - once you worked on one or two graphs.  It takes a little time for you to put those together but since you are such a giving person email me (now that my email is fixed) and tell me what you are looking for.  Since you are not a direct competitor I will be happy to help put a couple together for you in the next couple of days but I need to know the specs ;)

Gina - I LOVE Renee's charts and graphs.  They're interesting and informative and they look fabulous!  I have gone through her tutorial before but I am going to go through it again later today.  Hopefully, I'll pick up on a few things I missed the first time.

Bob - I am going to be working on Excel because you're right, it is the easiest way to chart and graph market data.

Jane - Don't know if you learn anything from me but stay tuned because I am going to be working with them and will blog about my trials and tribulations.

Bill - Definitely going to be working on mastering Excel's charting and graphing formats.  Oddly enough, in a previous career, I did a lot of Excel worksheets so I can do those but just never had the need for charting and graphing.

Renee - UR THE BOMB!!!   Rest assured, you'll probably be hearing from me in the very near future.  I'm going to do the best I can on my own (don't want to bother you when you're busy) but if I get real stuck, I'll call or email.  Thx.  :)
