Take It Off In The Rain - Week 4 - A Change In The Menu

By

It's hard to believe we're closing in on the four week anniversary of our challenge to get healthier, and for those of us who previously packed on unwanted pounds, lose weight in the rain.  The Take It Off In The Rain group has turned out to be so much more than simply a support group.  We're getting to know eachbread other on a deeper level.  We do support successes and act as a buttress for one another when the going gets rough.  We share our stories, our concerns, we share laughs and we swap recipes.

I've been more on the receiving end of tempting creations up to now but I will reciprocate by posting a dish I've been enjoying for quite awhile when I have more time.  For now I wanted to tell you all about a new (to me) flatbread I discovered.  Always searching for some new things to introduce into the same old, same old, I found Arnold Artisan Ovens savory herb with rosemary and basil flatbread on the supermarket shelf.  One sniff told me it was worth trying and WOW, I'm in love.  At first I wondered at its 140 calorie per piece count, but reasoned I could use half, or a whole one as a wrap or panini.  The equivalent in volume to two slices of bread, that made it similar to the low calorie, thin sliced breads.

I came home from my open house in South Bellmore today very hungry.  Not wanting to squander my food allowance (nothing formal, just a good sense plan) on garbage, which would have been my old way, I decided to make an open sandwich of low fat, low sodium turkey (2 very thin slices), low sodium ham (2 thin slices) and low fat, low sodium american cheese (2 thin slices).  Instead of the usual low fat mayo I would have used, I went for dijon mustard as a condiment (thanks to Dr. Oz, who said you could save 100 calories a day by making the change).  I loved it, salivating, tantalizing, rapturous love.  It definitely turned ordinary into extraordinary. Mmmmmmm.  You can bet it will be on the menu till I get sick to death of it.

I'm a huge mustard fan--gave up mayo years ago and am so glad I did.  Isn't it great when the healthy choice actually tastes better than the unhealthy one?  Good for you!

Sounds like a great post-open house snack. I make something similar with a tortilla instead of flat bread, heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds, then roll it up and eat it!

Victor - Take It Off In The Rain is a great group of people who have made the decision to get healthier, to eat better, in some cases lose weight and support each other in the effort.  You should check it out.

Norma - I'm discovering the benefits and joys of mustard.  I make a great mustard/balsamic vinegar chicken dish and am beginning to enjoy it as a condiment.  With this particular flatbread and its flavoring, the mustard, along with the lunch meats made for an interesting and delicious dish.

John - Microwaving sounds great.  I think I'll try that next time.

Geri,  I saw this and bought it the other day!  So funny.  I bought the Rosemary and Olive Oil.  It was great.  I ate it with a veggie burger.  If you like Dijon mustard, try the one with the seeds.  That's another of my new favorites.

Geri, I love flat bread... All kinds of bread, really! I just finished grilled chicken w/ my special spices along with rice & grilled zucchini. It was great!

Elyse, That is funny.  I'm going to have to try it with a turkey burger.

You are one of the main reasons this group has turned out to be so much more than just a support group.  Your new "find" at the grocery store sounds so delicious............I'm going to have to give that a try...............I love flatbread.  How did the open house go today?  Been dying to hear.

Don - what kind of spices do you put on the chicken?  Sounds good.

Debra - Doesn't it just.  I want to try some of them.  Love the flatbread.

Roger - That flatbread surprised me.  I can't tell you how many things I've tried, then thrown out.  This was a good to the last drop choice.  The open house today was terrible.  I only had one couple.  There was a street fair, which might have contributed to the problem.  And yesterday's open house for the brokers just yielded one person, but there was a major accident nearby and they were rerouting traffic.  People would have had to go way out of their way to get there.  Interestingly, the wife today said, as she walking into the bedrooms, "these rooms are so welcoming."  I smiled from ear to ear.

Good news about the flatbread..............not so much about the open houses.  I'm sorry, I know you were really excited about them, but hearing what the owner had to say had to make up for your disappointment quite a bit.................the rooms were lovely.

What's on the agenda for tomorrow?

Another open house tomorrow.  I hope it's better, but we'll see.  The fair continues through tomorrow.  All we need is one right buyer. :)  It was a potential buyer who mentioned how welcoming the rooms were.  It definitely made me happy.

Hope today goes much better for you Geri...............I agree, it just takes that one right buyer............maybe today.  I am meeting friends for brunch later this morning.......kind of a low key day for me..............even better it was a potential buyer who mentioned how welcoming the rooms were.

Geri--I am encouraged.  If you found the bread in New York and Elyse found it in Florida, I should be able to find in in between (sort of) in Indiana!!  The Earl of Sandwich has always been my hero!  Can't wait to try another version!!
