A Howdy From Houston Gift

Houston Home Staging package

My cell phone rang a couple of weeks ago while I was shopping at HomeSense.  I answered, and a mischievous voice on the other end said "Sally, this is Tom from Houston"!  Oh my goodness.  How did Tom know that I was shopping at HomeSense and had just put a couple of nice, shiny lamps in my buggy, along with some orchids, and ferns?

Tom had just written a post about how stagers shouldn't go shopping all the time, but should use up what they've got in their inventory.  Yeh, right.  I'm bored with my current lamps, I don't have any more orchids, and I was inspired by Tom's ferns to purchase some of my own.  I expected a Texas drawl on the phone, but was surprised to hear more of a New York style accent.  I was corrected.  This was a Philadelphian accent.

Tom told me that he wanted to send me something.  What? - I asked.  He wouldn't tell me.  I was intrigued and very excited.  Well, wouldn't you know it, today I opened up my mailbox, and along with bills and flyers, was an intriguing looking package, post marked Texas!  I rushed in, placed the package on my mantle, and took a photo.  Come on, how else did this photo end up on this blog?  Ok, then I opened the package.

Houston Home Staging book

Inside was a copy of Tom's latest marketing venture - a gorgeous book of photos featuring staging jobs completed by Houston Home Staging.  The book is extremely well done and a wonderful keepsake.  But wait, there's more...  also in the package was my very own copy of Absolutely Katy! Sept/Oct 2010 edition, featuring Tom's own house.  I had seen this article on Active Rain, but to actually have the magazine sitting tactile in my hands was wonderful.  I bet I'm the only person in British Columbia, no wait, all of Canada, with an edition of Absolutely Katy! magazine!

I believe I made a passing comment a while ago, stating that I wished I could have Tom's new book in my Christmas stocking.  Well, Christmas came early for me this year.  Thanks, Tom, for a wonderful, thoughtful gift and gesture.  It means a lot!

Your friend,

Sally aka Digby Mahon

Barbara - Isn't it fun how A/R brings people together?  I've just met Tom through blogs and chats on A/R, but he's become a dear friend.  Tom's work is lovely and not to be missed - glad you subscribed.

Cynthia - It was such a nice surprise to find that package in my mailbox.  Interesting how "real mail" is such a thrill, in this day and age of emails.  The photos in the book look amazing in real life.  This will make a great marketing tool, too.

Sally:  What great fun!  I still get excited when I see real mail (not the bills, though) in the mailbox.  Now, have you sent a nice thank you note?  Julie

The magazine is a great tribute, and who else would have a toboggan hanging on their wall!  Nice work, Tom.  Keep up the winter toys.

Dear Miss Manners Julie - Well, I did sent a 'thank you' email, but you're absolutely right, it should be a 'thank you' snail mail card.  That would be far more appropriate.  Thank you for your subtle and delicate suggestions in the fine art of thank you responses.  I should expect nothing less from a girl from Connecticut!

David - You've been into your cups in Napa again, haven't you?  I don't know what you're talking about - what tobaggan?  Am I missing something?  I see stuffed peasants pheasants, but no tobaggan...

So, I said to myself:  "Self... why not sneak a copy of the portfolio to lovely Sally Weatherly.   If nothing else she can use it for kindling.  No one will ever know that I didn't send them one too......"

A few extra copies of Absolutely! were sent out, but I couldn't include portfolios for everyone :(  ......

Fortunately, Stager's and Realtors throughout North America and France,  (did I ever tell you..........uh, anyway)  Stager's and Realtors can purchase the portfolio through kodakgallery.com, or receive a free copy with their first paid consultation!

International consultations will require air fare  (business class at least......), first class accomodations, and a liveried-apple-polishing-wait-staff.   Rose petals need not be strewn after the initial meet and greet, because gardenias are nicer.   Now, this may seem expensive, but you get the free portfolio..........<G>

So, now that the cat is out of the bag, my 'be nice to Sally' will cost me $XYZ  multiplied by 200K units.   Oh Jimster...........

Again many thanks (I think)!

Valerie - Yeh, READING is news to me, too!  Sheesh.  Well, Tom had better get that printing press fired up.

Tom - I believe you neglected to add the post script saying "don't tell anyone"!  A costly detail, by the sounds of it.  And be careful you don't trip on those gardenia petals on the red carpet.

Thanks for adding the details!

Mary Lou - Oh dear.  Well, had you added on one of his blogs about his book that "it was to die for", "best staging book I've ever seen", "you're a genius", "wow, wish I'd thought of that" and "gee, sure wish Santa will bring me one in my Christmas stocking", then you too would have received his book!  But hey, the magazine is really cool, too.

Sally, thanks for sharing your exciting story with a lovely "Early Christmas" surprise at the end! That was such a sweet thought of Tom to send you that magazine...and you probably are the only Canadian to have an Absolutely Katy! Lucky you! :)

What a great surprise!  Friends on AR have surprised me several times, with little notes, a gift card, a little handmade gift, who says the internet isn't personal? =o)
