Do You Actually Read The Entire Post Before You Comment?

Do you actually read an entire post before you scroll down to make your comment? blogging for business

There was this great featured post the other day where a member of Active Rain was asking for advice about starting her own wordpress blog/site.

Reading through the comments I noticed that there were comments giving Debbie advice about what she has to have on her wordpress blog/site. Some of the commenters said she needs to have ways that a buyer can search for their home and things related to real estate buyers and sellers. Her post is 'members only' so I won't link to it from a public post. But here is a link to her profile- Debbie Gartner Flooring Guru.

It caused me to wonder how many people actually read the post. Also, do you look on the blogger's side bar to see who they work for?

Active Rain is open to all real estate related businesses. So there are Realtors®, Mortgage Brokers, Consultants, Stagers, Home Inspectors and others.

Debbie owns a Flooring Franchise. She sells Hardwood flooring, tile and carpet. Having a home buying search like Diverse Solutions or Realbird are really not going to be benefit Debbie and her business.

So even if you don't read the entire post to figure out what the blogger is saying do you at least read about who they are? Just saying....

I try to read the entire post but, I confess, on the longer posts I sometimes get led astray, or lead myself astray as it were. And, one other confession, I don't always check to see what the poster does.

Mike- But I don't believe that you would give advice to someone when you don't even know what they do if that answer should benefit their business. :)

Katerina:  I usually read the entire post before I make a comment, as I did with this post of yours.  Sometimes, if I am really interested in the topic, or if it looks like the comments are "real" comments that add to the dialogue, I will read many, if not all of the comments.

In this post... I did not read ALL of the comments... but definitely read the entire post.

I know when I write a post that gets good comments... it really bothers me when someone writes a comment... and you can just TELL that all they read was the title of the post, and assumed they knew what it was all about.  I find that very irritating.

I mean... why bother commenting at all... if you're not going to be adding something relevant.

I think a lot of ARers have this happen to them.  You get the token, "Thanks for the information" comment.  That's okay.  Most of the comments are helpful, and you can easily pass over the others.

Karen Anne-  I feel much the same. But over the years here, it no longer bothers me that people leave simple, great post comments. Sometimes I will go by a friend like you, who perhaps I have not been by in a while, and just say, hey, I am just stopping by to say hi and let you know I read your blog, or something to that effect. Then again, I think if I left you a comment like that, you would feel my sincerity.

What I mind is when someone makes a comment adding to a conversation, giving their advice when they don't even know what advice they are giving or whether it is relevant. I think when someone gives you advice with out even knowing what you do- is like meeting someone who shuts their ears but won't shut their mouth, offline. :)
