Braemar: Pick Your Own Pumpkins in Nokesville at Yankey Farms

October is my favoite month of the year.  And October wouldn't be complete without a voyage to pick out pumpkins for carving Halloween Jack-o-Lanterns.  I have always gone to garden centers or roadside stands for my pumpkins and never experienced an actual pumpkin patch.  All of that changed when I head out on Sunday to Yankey Farm's Pick Your Own Pumpkin Patch off of Vint Hill Road just north of the intersection with Sudley Manor Drive....mere yards away from the back entrance to Braemar in Bristow, VA.

Once you get to Yankey Farm's pumpkin patch, you snag a little red wagon and off you go  Walking past the corn maze where children are picked up for a Cows-n-Corn train ride, pulled by a tractor , the pumpkin patch is staight ahead.  I was excited at the prospect of walking through the patch where these pumpkins are grown and hand picking my own.  I just wish that someone would have told me that wearing socks was a geat idea (I had an athletic slip on covered shoe) and having gloves would have been a good idea.  Pumpkin stems are prickly.  and there are lots of burrs on the ground.

None of that stopped me from scouring the pumpkin patch for three perfect pumpkins that would grace the outside of my home for Halloween, all aglow to greet my Braemar trick-or-treaters.  I purchased three rather large pumpkins, picked right off the vine, for only $20.  Seemed a great deal to me.  And I'm sure the families brining the little ones for the corn maze and Cows-n-Corn train rides had even more bang for their buck.

Halloween fun doesn't have to end at Yankey Farms' Pumpkin Patch.  If you would like to take advantage of my special Halloween offer to my blog readers with kids twelve and younger, please click the link provided.

Nina:  I will be happy to post them after they are carved.  Will have to pick out some patterns first.

Sounds like a great way to spend a few hours.  I may need to grab my daughter next weekend and head to a pumpkin patch.  Hopefully the weather will hold for another week.

Cindy:  I'm sure it will.  But even if it was a tad chilly, I'm sure it would be just as enjoyable.

October is TOTALLY my favorite month as well!  Yankey Farms sounds like a terrific place to spend a Fall afternoon scouting out that oh so perfect pumpkin to carve!  Can't wait to see your creations.

Looks like a fun place that I would love to take our little grandson to!  Those really do look like perfect pumpkins.

Leesa:  Printed out my patterns today.  I'm most excited to see the scarecrow I printed up.  We'll see what it looks like on the pumpkin.

Trey:  The flat sides are just facing away from you in this picture.  I am convinced there is no such thing as a perfect pumpkin.

What fun.  I guess it is time to pull out the fall decorations and get ready for the kiddos.

This looks like a great place to take my granddaughter Taylor.  Makes me wish my other granddaughter still lived in the area.  They are a year apart and would be in hog heaven here.

Anne:  I bet Natalie and Taylor would love this.  It is too bad that Natalie isn't in the area anymore.

It looks like alot of family fun Chris Ann, especially for young kids.  Every time I see a pumpkin farm I'm reminded of the Roloffs (TV show, "Little People, Big World").

Sounds like you had fun Chris Ann!  My littlest one sure would really like the tractoNathaniel and Wendy at Chesterfield Berry Farmr ride!

We have a similar farm here in Chesterfield called Chesterfield Berry Farm.  We go every year and have a blast.

This is a photo of us on the hay ride when Nathaniel was a baby. So much fun!

We go every year.  Nathaniel has a wheat allergy so the first year we went on the hay ride and he got a horrible red rash.  Thankfully, now that we know, we avoid the hay and he has so much fun.

Wendy:  Wow!  That stinks.  I wonder if laying a blanket on top of the hay would help.  A thick blanket.  Anyway, I'm glad you guys still go and have fun doing what you can.

It’s been a long time since I actually picked a pumpkin, but I have been known to wander around a pumpkin patch looking for good pictures to take. ☺☻☻☺
