Helpful Household Hints

While looking for helpful household hints, I came across a website titled, " Bob Allison's Ask Your Neighbor."  This website offered many answers to questions you may find useful around your home when it comes to repair or making tasks easier.

One thing, which had always bothered me, had to do with conversion of measurements when it came to cooking.  For instance you buy a #303 can, how many cups is inside?  It's easy when the can states 8 oz, or 16 oz, but some measurements aren't as readily converted.  For example weight ounces aren't the same as fluid ounces.

In addition to the following conversion information, was a litany of other information available at the website via: Bob Allison's Ask your Neighbor - Helpful Household Hints.

CONVERSION CHART FOR CUP MEASUREMENTS

8 oz. = 1 cup
Picnic size = 1 1/4 cups
#300 can = 1 3/4 cups
#1 tall can = 2 cups
#303 can = 2 cups
#2 can (20 oz. can) = 2 1/2 cups
#2 1/2 can = 3 1/2 cups
#3 can = 4 cups
#10 can = 12-13 cups

The website also provided conversions to grams, weights and measures, and other conversion tables useful around the house.

Connie - The thing that gets me is those cnned goods usually come from right here in the US of A.  Why do they need to be so drned cryptic about what those measurements mean.

Barbara-Jo, You are so right!  Things that were so useful back then, have disappeared.  I guess we don't require them, when dinner is ordered up each night at Mickey D's. . .LOL

Dear Heloise Myrl, Now that is useful information. I am printing this out. Some of these things I would have guessed right but had no idea what a #303 can was . I was thinking it would be big enough to water the lawn. This is definitely thinking outside the box and proves once again that a good blogger can blog about anything.

William - I do seem to have a history of ecclectic blog topics, don't I:-)

I don't know if it's really an indication of thinking outside the box, or not having a box in the first place.  Sometimes, I think we we are being asked to think outside the box, the person asking us to do so, is the one that created the box!

OK, I just read my last sentence, and it sounds a little convoluted, like someone who hasn't had her morning coffee:-)   I need to fix that!

Juli - The thing that always seems to baffle me with cans, is that they often give weight in oz. but that doesn't tell fluid weight or actual content.  For example - the can of stewed tomatoes says 16 oz.  Well that's 1 pound, but 1 pound does not generally equate to 16 oz (2 cups) of tomatoes.
