Are Politicians protected by laws for lies and distortions?

Do you think the ads you see on TV are the truth when a politicians quotes statistics or tell a sorted tail about their opponent?

We have come to know that truth in advertising means what they say in the ads are the truth.  Right?  Actually there is a low about advertising and truth.

Yet the same is not true for political ads.  Check out the link below.  Here is a site that helps you decide on fact and fiction.  www.FactCheck.org

http://www.factcheck.org/2004/06/false-ads-there-oughta-be-a-law-or-maybe-not/

If you are like me...I don't want the people that lead up able to knowingly distort facts.  Use lies and half truths to sway votes.  I want the best candidate possible.  I want someone honest that will represent myIs is magic? best interest.

Sounds like a fairytale, wishful thinking, a little naive even.  I don't want kids in school quoting these lies and distortions to their classmates as fact because it was in a TV commercial.

How do you know any of the public officials are telling you the truth anytime they provide any information.

Here is one of my favorite line from a public official "You'll have to pass the bill to know what's in it."  I wonder who said that?

Now you may have know they were lieing and think I am a big nerd for believeing there had to be a law to make sure what we are told is factual but I never guessed they were protected to do exactly what we teach out children not to do...lie.

Try factcheck.org see if you find things you didn't know.

Gary,

They should abide by ethics just like we do.  I never know what they will do for us if elected.  It's always like children, "he did that" . . . . .  I have yet to find an hoest politician.

Personal Service, always.

In politics the ads are just "putting a spin" on the subject. Could you imagine if the real estate agent put a spin on a property?
