Palm Springs Aerial Tramway | Visiting Palm Springs, California

Palm Springs offers residents and visitors a number of unique activities and attractions. One of my favorite is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway - located in the rugged Chino Canyon on the north edge of Palm Springs - is the largest rotating tramcar in the world accommodating up to 80 passengers at a time.

Passengers are transported two and a half miles up to the Mountain Station from the Valley Station in an awesome ten minute ride. The floor of the aerial tram-cars rotates constantly making two complete rotations during the ride, allowing passengers to to see views in every direction without having to move around the tram-car.

Although originally conceived of in 1935, construction on the tramway only began in 1960 and took 26 months to complete.

Hi Stewart... I have always wanted to go to Palm Springs.  The Tramway sounds like a fun way to take in the views.

It's a great trip.  But, don't forget to take a jacket. The temperature up there can easily be 25 degrees different than down below! No kidding!

Stewart:

Another fun memory! When I was a kid we vacationed at Smoke Tree Ranch every Easter. Ted's right. It gets downright chilly up there. And I"m not sure if I could comfortably do that ride today. Acrophobia set in with age for me!

I AM going to do this on one of my trips to the desert. Seems like you are spending quite a bit of time out there!!

Mike - Fortunately they have a bar at the Mountain Station, so the Dramamine aren't necessary :)

Steve & Joel - It's definitely worth a visit when you're next in the area.

Christine - Absolutely beautiful views all the way up to the top of the mountain.

Steve - You have an open invitation to stay with us when you decide to visit :)

Ted - Last year I took my nephew and his girlfriend up there and it was freezing!

Cece - The ride is totally cool, although I have read about a few of the accidents over the years.

Jeff - I recently purchased an awesome mid-century modern home in South Palm Springs and have been driving to the desert every few days setting up the house .... and thoroughly enjoying it.
