In honor of Halloween, I thought it might be fun to visit one of my favorite cars from my childhood... aside from Speed Racer's Mach V... the Munster Koach.
I thought that was THE coolest rig on the planet when I was watching The Munsters every afternoon. What isn't to love about it, the gold plated intake pipes, the chrome exhaust pipes, the casket handle accents and the oil lamp headlights.
And while I don't think we should rehash it... the original Munster Koach has already been created... but instead, I think it is time for an update... and maybe a new Munsters series.
For the update, I think that a car that I generally have no use for would be a great base... Keep in mind, I'm not knocking the car... it just isn't my style. The Zimmer 4 door convertible.
For the conversion to a modern Munster Koach, the first thing to do would be to open up that engine bay and let that baby breathe. And the baby that would need breathing would be a Chevy LS9... about 638hp worth. Of course, we wouldn't be able to do the same treatment as the original, but I'm sure that we could come up with some pretty cool art for the engine.
Also, I don't think that going with the outdoor/indoor/rumble seat configuration would be needed... but maybe having a classic coach configuration would be the ticket... basically, the driver would be out in the open and the passengers would be chauffeured in comfort.
Of course, there would have to be a place for some of the touches from the original car... coffin handles, maybe even gas-light headlights, etc.
It would be REALLY fun to tool around town in, and could even be the basis for a new Munsters movie... every other show from the 1960s has been done into a movie. ;^ )
