Q: "Denise, do clients prefer email or phone calls?"

A: It depends on the client. You must learn what they prefer. Some people do everything by email because they don’t like talking on the phone. Others never put down their phone, leaving their email inbox unchecked for days.

All people are different. It’s up to you to figure out what kind of client you have. This also applies to frequency of contact. Some clients want daily updates. Some clients want weekly updates. A great question to ask a client is:

“How do you prefer I communicate with you?”

Another one is:

“How often would you like to receive updates?”

When you have the answer to these two questions, you will be in a much better position to help your client—in the exact way they want.
