Like auto insurance, every policy is different in what it covers and how much it covers. With the events of the past few years, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and other large events, insurance companies have taken a hit and are starting to cut back on what they cover in their basic policies.
Last year a some insurance companies in Oregon quit offering earthquake coverage with their basic policy. Another one that is not part of your basic policy is flood insurance and if any of you were here during the 1996 floods, you know, even if you think you are not in a flood plain, you still can have damage.
What about liability insurance? Even though it may come with your basic policy, how much does it really cover? Is it enough to protect you from a major accident on your property? Are you covered if you have alcohol at your BBQ?
What about fire insurance? This is another major difference in most policies that people don't find out about until it happens to them. In the event of a fire, do you have replacement coverage?
