Shift Happens! While We Sleep...

Yesterday, we had a Professional Development (PD) at our school to incorporate a PYP program, which is the Elementary school version of an IB program or International Baccalaureate program, that most of us think of at a high school level.

I originally saw this video in Saint John, New Brunwick a year ago.  I've seen a few up-to-date versions of it, exactly twice, while I'm working here in Beijing, China at the Canadian International School of Beijing.  My class alone has 18 students from 11 countries!  A very international group of students, whose parents are looking for the best education possible.

Seeing a few versions, makes me feel like the U.S., Canada & Europe are sleeping right through and not really making the changes we needed to get done the last 30 years for our kids, adults, future jobs, education, local industries, etc, etc, etc......

Check this video out, it's shocking world statistics:

I think fighting over who's got the Senate or House of Reps or Parliament should be put aside and realistically, analyze our future if we don't educate, feed, clothe or take care of our own countries and their offsprings.  Apparently, India & China are doing something right!  And we are left holding the empty bag without any goodies inside.

We need to seriously re-evaluate our education system, our government's priorities and our future within our own countries.  If your schools, states, provinces, etc. are not doing their job well, FIRE THEM!!!  Start with a new perspective and really take care of our own future.

Financial manipulation will always exist and I think one world currency is inevitable, but it's just getting all the countries together on this.

What's your thoughts on this?  Let me know, since I love to hear other people's opinions on this....

Hi Kathy,  Oh how I miss Canada & the U.S., but I'm having a blast here in Beijing.  Smog is still a problem, so I look forward to the rainy days, which usually clears it.   Part of the problem with us moving backwards, was the educational mentality of "No Child Left Behind", we began to "dummy our countries back".  The students picked up on that and realized they didn't have to try as hard.  In the meantime, the education in India, China & Brazil, was accelerating, where the students in those countries had to leave their own country, since the demands at their schools increased the pressure to perform.  It's ironic when you think of it.  There students coming over to us, since they couldn't get into their own universities.  ;>))

Hi Gordon,  How are you and Cherise doing in Colorado???  Beijing is GREAT!!!  The Chinese gov't has offered 25 teachers FREE Mandarin lessons for 18 weeks.  We go Tues & Thurs from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  It's helping us learn to speak their language correctly and we reinforce it everytime we go out of our school compound.  I'm learning alot and I wouldn't mind doing this another year.  I plan to post my trip to the Great Wall of China in the next few weeks.  I'll have to go through all the photos I took first.  ;>))

Hi Mike,  It's great to hear from you!!!  I agree it's not as easy to get rid of "tenure" teachers, but with our local public pushing it, it can be done.  We just have to realize we are getting "left behind GLOBALLY" and with a little more time without any changes, will be totally left behind for business and our future.  Sometimes, reality can hurt, but it does open our eyes to change!  ;>))
