AGENTS: REAL ESTATE AGENT HAS A BAD NEIGHBOR......what to do...?

I was hobnobbing with my fellow agents the other day when one shared that they were having a really bad time with their next door neighbor. We don't really appreciate having a good neighbor until you get a really bad one. This neighbor is an alcoholic, intimidating, large in size, unreasonable, and doesn't like anyone. In addition, he likes to pay people back

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE....COMING YOUR WAY

He tried to set up my agent friend by alleging to anyone who would pay attention that the agent molested his 3 year old daughter. Well, that did it for the agent and his wife. They were livid...they put up with the parties, the beer bottles, the verbal, mental, and psychical abuse and now this....?

WHAT IS A PERSON TO DO...?

The agent called Child services and reported this so that it could be brought out into the light and of course documented. Have no doubt.... my dear reader that the agent did not do this foul deed. Child services screws up the call and documents that the agent was molested, not the little 3 year old. Yes, it is hard to believe.

Consequently the police come out to take a report and the agent has to tell them that he was not molested, but that the neighbor is alleging that he molested the neighbors 3 year old. Whew...

NIGHTMARE ON ELM YOUR STREET

The police go over there and get the disorderly neighbor to admit that it never happened and.... this is done with children and wife present. The record reflects this. Now, the neighbor wants to get even with the agent at all costs.

I SAID....ONE OF YOU HAS TO GO...THE AGENT SAID...... HIM AND HIS WIFE WERE LEAVING

The agent is going to move (after 10 years there) and put his house up for sale. Now, he has to disclose this neighbor to buyers & agents and what has been going on for months and months. I consider it a material fact in whether to purchase this home or not. Consequently, it will affect the sale and the value.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?....I SHARED WHAT I WOULD DO

I told the agent to go over there and make the peace at all costs because in the end, YOU are going lose time and money. He admits that and..... doesn't know what to expect but, that it will be a challenge..He threatens to sue if he cant sell and I said it will only make it worse plus stigmatize the property even further....

THE VALUE OF A GOOD NEIGHBOR...ISN'T KNOWN UNTIL YOU DO KNOW

If you have a good neighbors like I do...we share cookies, cakes, breads, fruits, stories and hellos all year long. For the neighbors that are not real close to me, I can honestly say there is no problems even though we do have our disagreements from time to time. All petty I might add...

If you have a good neighbor, appreciate it because........ having a bad neighbor is hell......

Ginny....the agent told me he wanted to send some dummy agents to go in and see if this guy would bad mouth him....then he would sue if he did. My response, how does that help you.? In fact, it further stigmatizes the property here in California.....This business just keeps on teaching.......

Hello...Pat....I can put up with what you described. When I first found out that a praking space can bother someone...I thought it was petty. Then, one day, someone started parking in front of my house and it was no longer petty. I went full circle on this. I now understood....Life is that way. I listen to everyone and try to find that middle ground. Some make it tougher than others.....

What a horrible set of circumstances.  I hope the agent can sort things out.  But selling the house is not going to be easy unless he can talk sense into the neighbor.  Of course, if that happened, he would not have to move.

Jane....you nailed it perfectly. Apparently he lacks the skill to diffuse this and if he could diffuse this, why would he move?....Jane, lets you and I count our blessings......

I would do this...placate and pony up some false friendship and a case of beer, or what ever drink he likes, to ease the pain, and then when the market improves....move.  Life's a game and to win sometimes you have to be an actor.

Jane checks in and reports.......she would make friends to get from point A to Point B......I lean in that direction....Its honey versus vinegar time and what you can catch. In this case, it is case of beer or whatever........Since you brought up acting, Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts get 20 million a picture....so that is good advice..thank you Jane
