Following are significant holiday performances that I'm aware of.

  1. Plaid Tidings — A special holiday edition of Forever Plaid at The Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park. Now through December 26. Call 619-234-5623 or go to theoldglobe.org.
  2. December Nights — San Diego's largest holiday event with more than 300,000 people expected to pack Balboa Park during the two days. December 3 from 5:00-10:00 p.m., and December 4 from noon to 10:00 p.m. An added benefit is that many Balboa Park museums will offer free admission from 5:00-9:00 p.m. both days. Go to balboapark.org for more information.
  3. http://www.missionvalleycondos.infoThe Nutcracker - Performance by the San Diego Ballet with the San Diego Children's Choir, San Diego Master Chorale, and Grossmont Symphony Orchestra. December 4 & 5 at the Birch North Park Theatre and December 16 & 17 at Mandevile UCSD in La Jolla.   4. Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony — San Diego Symphony and San Diego Master Chorale. Copley Symphony Hall. December 10 & 11, 8:00 p.m., and December 12, 2:00 p.m.
  5. The Nutcracker - California Ballet's annual production of this holiday classic. December 11 & 12 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts and December 18, 19, & 21 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Call 619-570-1100 or 858-560-6741, or go to californiaballet.org.
  6. Mistletoe, Music & Mayhem! - Holiday cabaret show by the North Coast Repertory Theatre. December 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and December 19 at 2:00 p.m. Call 858-481-1055 or go to northcoastrep.org.
  7. 18th Annual Traditions Christmas — A musical spectacular at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego. December 17-23. Call 619-588-0206 or go to cctmusicaltheater.com.
  8. Holiday Pops — December 17-19 with the San Diego Master Chorale and the San Diego Children's Choir. Call 619-236-541

I can't say that I was sad to see the end of the holiday season. People get hung up on one or two Christmas songs and play them until you're sick of them for the rest of your lives.
