Our Weekend at the Clayton Art Show

This past weekend was the annual Clayton, Missouri Art Show.  This event, which is free to the public, is one of our favorites.  Unfortunately, this weekend, the weather was a bit threatening and it did rain off and on.  We attended on Saturday and while it did drizzle, the attendance was lower so we had fewer crowds to battle for a glimpse of all the great artwork.

Staged on the streets of Clayton, artists from many different genres presented their wares.  We saw pottery, ceramics, jewelry, photography, drawing, wood work, fiber and glass.  The artists were quite accomodating in answering questions about their craft.  Drawing artists from around the country, St. Louis is very lucky to have such a premier event.  While many artists were from far away, local talent was also well represented.  There were live demonstrations of glass blowing while we were there.

Jim favored some of the wood works while I was fascinated with the glass work.  This was certainly not a "starving artists" kind of display. Some of the pieces were priced in the thousands of dollars.

After all the art browsing, we got hungry.  Food was plentiful with many area restrurants represented.  We bought a tenderloin sandwich with some seasoned fries that were both mouthwatering.  Despite the weather, there were plenty of dry seats beneath large tents where we enjoyed our food and listened to music from local bands.  Where there is good food, there was, of course, good drink.  The choices were endless from soft drinks to martinis.  There were also samples of Anheuser Busch's newest products.

As we were leaving, we saw some modern dance being performed on a street corner.  We walked to our car listening to the fading strains of another great musical performance on the main stage.  We might have had frizzier hair than when we arrived, but we certainly enjoyed our day at the Clayton Art Show.

Linda: I had planned to attend but we had a large staging project that kept us away! I thought about everyone out in the rain. Glad you enjoyed the show!
